Job summary

Dover Corporation in Whitsett, NC is seeking a Setup Tech for our manufacturing facility. The role requires start-to-finish setup of mill, lathe and CNC machines to produce valve and regulator parts.

You will read blueprints, operate machines, perform QC checks, and contribute to continuous improvement and safety initiatives. Typical duties include tuning machines, replacing tooling, and maintaining tools and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Set up manual/CNC and mill/lathe machines per specifications.
• Start machines, secure workpieces, and manage feeding/cooling.
• Read blueprints; interpret symbols for dimensions and tolerances.
• Detect and contain defects; troubleshoot machine issues.
• Replace dull tooling and perform minor maintenance.
• Collect measurements and perform QC with calipers, gages, and micrometers.
• Enter QC data into Statistical Process Control system.
• Support safety and 6S Kaizen initiatives in the shift.

Job description

This position is based in our Whitsett, NC manufacturing facility and the base schedule is Friday through Sunday, 7:00 am to 7:00 pm. The ability to work overtime as needed is required.

Scope

Setup Techs are tasked with start-to-finish setup of mill, lathe, and CNC machines to produce high-quality valve and regulator parts. These individuals read blueprints, start and operate manual and CNC machines, perform quality checks with various gaging equipment, and perform minor preventative machine maintenance. We are looking for individuals who have knowledge or experience in machine operations, a keen eye for quality control and safety, the ability to solve problems and perform basic mathematics, and the desire to develop and expand their skills in a production-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Sets up manual/CNC and mill/lathe machines to produce metal valve and regulator parts in accordance with machine specifications.
• Starts machines, positions and secures workpiece, and engages bar feeding, cooling, and lubricating mechanisms.
• Reads blueprints and understands symbols for concentricity, runout, surface finish, machined/non-machined surfaces, seat areas, and dimensions.
• Detects product defects, contains defects, and resolves issues.
• Works through machine malfunctions, performs basic troubleshooting, and makes minor adjustments as necessary.
• Replaces dull or worn tooling in machines using hand tools.
• Removes burrs, sharp edges, and tool marks from products using files, hand grinders, wire brushes, and power tools.
• Performs quality checks by collecting measurements and dimensions using calipers, go/no go gages, micrometers, height gages, thread gages, concentricity gages and other measuring tools.
• Enters quality control data using Statistical Process Control System.
• Performs minor preventative maintenance, such as oiling or cleaning machines, dies, or workpieces, or adding coolant to machine reservoirs.
• Actively participates in the ECI 6S program centered around work area safety (organization, standardization, and cleanliness) throughout the shift.
• Actively participates in Kaizen events, a program focused on the continuous improvement of safety and efficiency practices related to individuals and processes within the manufacturing warehouse.
