Job summary

Fulcrum Technologies, Inc. is seeking a Setup Machinist/Operator to set up and run CNC and manual machines in a high-quality manufacturing environment.

The role focuses on producing precision components, performing inspections, and supporting continuous improvement while maintaining top safety and quality standards. You will read blueprints, select tooling, verify fixturing, and document procedures to ensure repeatability.

Qualifications

  • 3–7 years of precision machining experience, including CNC and/or manual operation.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and GD&T specifications.
  • Experience operating CNC mills, lathes, or similar equipment.
  • Familiarity with tooling selection, cutting parameters, and fixturing techniques.
  • Proficient with precision measuring equipment (micrometers, calipers).
  • Strong mathematical and mechanical aptitude; detail-oriented and quality-focused.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills; able to work independently or with a team.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC and manual machine tools to manufacture precision components.
  • Run existing CNC programs, make minor edits, offsets, and tool changes as required.
  • Load, secure, and align workpieces; verify machining results meet specs.
  • Read blueprints and GD&T; document setup procedures for repeatability.
  • Inspect components using precision measuring equipment and report quality concerns.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, and Production to improve efficiency and safety.

We are seeking a skilled Setup Machinist/Operator to support precision machining operations in a high-quality manufacturing environment. This position is responsible for setting up and operating CNC and manual machine tools, producing precision components, performing inspections, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives while maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality.

This position description is intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by employees in this role. Duties, responsibilities, and qualifications may be adjusted as business needs evolve.

Machining Operations
  • Set up and operate CNC and manual machine tools, including mills and lathes, to manufacture precision components.
  • Run existing CNC programs and make minor program edits, offsets, and tool adjustments as required.
  • Select appropriate tooling and cutting parameters with guidance from senior machinists and leadership.
  • Load, secure, and align workpieces to ensure accurate machining results.
  • Monitor machine performance and verify production requirements are met.
Blueprint Reading & Setup
  • Read and interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, work instructions, and GD&T specifications.
  • Review job requirements and determine proper setup methods.
  • Verify tooling, fixturing, and material requirements before production begins.
  • Document setup procedures and machining processes to support repeatability and consistency.
Inspection & Quality Control
  • Inspect machined components using precision measuring equipment.
  • Verify dimensions, tolerances, and surface finishes meet engineering requirements.
  • Identify and communicate quality concerns promptly.
  • Maintain accurate inspection and production records as required.
  • Assist in troubleshooting setup, tooling, program, and machining issues.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, and Production teams to improve efficiency and quality.
  • Support process improvement initiatives and lean manufacturing efforts.
  • Contribute ideas that improve safety, productivity, and operational performance.
Safety & Workplace Organization
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work area.
  • Participate in safety meetings and training programs.
  • Properly use all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Assist other departments as needed and perform other duties as assigned.
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
  • 3 to 7 years of precision machining experience, including CNC and/or manual machine operation.
  • Working knowledge of CNC machining principles.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and GD&T specifications.
  • Experience operating CNC mills, lathes, or similar machining equipment.
  • Familiarity with tooling selection, cutting parameters, and standard fixturing techniques.
  • Proficiency using precision measuring equipment, including:
  • Micrometers
  • Calipers
  • Strong mathematical and mechanical aptitude.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience editing basic CNC programs and offsets.
  • Experience in a manufacturing, fabrication, or job shop environment.
  • Technical certificate or Associate's Degree in Machining, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field.
  • Experience with continuous improvement or lean manufacturing practices.
  • Indoor manufacturing and machining environment.
  • Fast-paced production setting with changing priorities and production schedules.
  • Frequent standing, bending, stooping, reaching, and material handling throughout the workday.
  • Regular exposure to machining equipment, cutting tools, and metalworking operations.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required on the shop floor and provided by the company.
