Overview

The Architect, Enterprise Architecture – Enterprise Platform & Solution Architect holds dual accountability for the cross-platform technical standards that govern how PDS Health's enterprise technology ecosystem is built and integrated, and for the end-to-end solution designs that implement initiatives across it. This role does not own a single platform — it owns the architectural layer that sits across all of them: defining the principles, patterns, and governance frameworks that ensure every platform at PDS Health is adopted, configured, integrated, and evolved in a consistent, scalable, and operationally sustainable way.

Operating within the Enterprise Architecture practice and reporting to the Director of Enterprise Architecture, this position brings architectural coherence to a broad and growing enterprise platform portfolio — spanning Epic, Workday, Salesforce, ServiceNow, MuleSoft, Snowflake, and cloud infrastructure (AWS) — by setting the standards that platform-specific teams and external implementation partners must follow, and by serving as the lead solution designer for initiatives that cut across platform boundaries.

This role serves as the cross‑functional architecture authority in solution design reviews, platform evaluation forums, and vendor engagement, and may lead a small team of architects or senior technical contributors.

Responsibilities
  • Cross-Platform Architecture Standards: Define, publish, and maintain architecture standards, patterns, and design principles that apply across all enterprise platforms — covering configuration governance, API and integration design, data handling, security posture, and operational sustainability — and ensure alignment between platform‑specific teams and enterprise architectural direction.
  • Solution Design: Serve as lead solution designer for initiatives that span multiple enterprise platforms; produce Solution Architecture Documents covering end‑to‑end process flows, data models, integration touchpoints, Role‑Based Access Control (RBAC) designs, and deployment specifications, and maintain implementation authority through delivery handoff.
  • Platform Governance: Lead and coordinate the Enterprise Architecture review process for platform‑level decisions; hold gating authority on cross‑platform architectural choices and exercise advisory oversight on platform‑specific solution designs for standards compliance.
  • Integration Architecture: Define and govern the approved enterprise integration pattern framework — including API‑led connectivity (Request/Response), event‑driven patterns (Apache Kafka / AWS Managed Streaming for Apache Kafka (MSK)), middleware‑brokered integration (MuleSoft Anypoint), and point‑to‑point patterns where justified — with standards covering authentication, error handling, schema governance, and API lifecycle management.
  • Platform Evaluation & Lifecycle Management: Evaluate prospective platforms and modules for architectural fit, integration complexity, sequencing dependencies, and strategic value; maintain the enterprise platform capability roadmap and provide technical input to platform acquisition and retirement decisions.
  • Shared Services & Reusability: Define and govern reusable architecture patterns, shared integration components, and common service designs that span platforms; enforce a build‑once/reuse‑everywhere mandate and maintain a living catalog of approved patterns available to all platform teams.
  • Security & Compliance by Design: Embed zero‑trust principles, identity federation, data classification, encryption standards, and applicable regulatory requirements — including Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and HITRUST — into all cross‑platform and solution architecture designs.
  • Data Architecture Standards: Define cross‑platform data integration, lineage, and governance patterns that ensure data quality, traceability, and consistency across operational, analytical, and streaming layers.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Translate architecture standards and solution designs into actionable technical guidance for development and platform teams, and into clear, business‑appropriate communication for process owners, IT leadership, and executive stakeholders.
  • Team Leadership: Provide architectural direction, standards coaching, and design review for a small team of architects and/or senior technical contributors; elevate architectural maturity across the broader engineering and platform community.
  • Vendor & Third‑Party Governance: Define non‑negotiable technical requirements for external implementation partners engaging with any enterprise platform; own architectural acceptance criteria and require knowledge transfer as a contractual deliverable.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Required
  • 6+ years of progressive experience in enterprise solution or platform architecture, with at least 3 years in a hands‑on architecture or senior technical design role spanning multiple platforms or technology domains.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field — or equivalent professional experience.
  • Demonstrated track record of establishing and operating an architecture governance model across multiple technology platforms or organizational teams — including review processes, decision records, and standards enforcement.
  • Proven experience designing end‑to‑end integration solutions using API‑led, event‑driven, or middleware‑brokered patterns across two or more major enterprise platforms.
Preferred
  • Hands‑on experience with two or more major enterprise platforms in PDS Health’s portfolio: Epic, Workday, Salesforce, ServiceNow, MuleSoft, Snowflake, or AWS.
  • Experience designing or governing event‑driven architectures using Apache Kafka, AWS MSK, or equivalent streaming platforms.
  • Experience with cloud‑native patterns on AWS or equivalent — including containerization, serverless, infrastructure as code (IaC), and CI/CD pipeline design.
  • Experience in healthcare, dental, or a similarly regulated enterprise environment with awareness of HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules and HITRUST CSF requirements.
  • Familiarity with AI‑augmented architecture patterns — including retrieval‑augmented generation (RAG) pipelines, agentic workflows, or large language model (LLM) integration — in enterprise or production contexts.
  • Relevant architecture certifications: AWS Certified Solutions Architect, TOGAF, MuleSoft Certified Integration Architect, or equivalent.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Broad knowledge of enterprise architecture patterns applicable across platforms: API design and governance, event streaming, data integration, identity and access management, and operational observability.
  • Strong solution design and documentation skills across the full initiative lifecycle — architecture diagrams, sequence flows, data models, integration specifications, and deployment topologies — sufficient for delivery teams to execute without ambiguity.
  • Proven ability to define and enforce technical development standards across internal platform teams and external implementation partners.
  • Effective communication across technical and non‑technical audiences, including translating architectural trade‑offs and solution designs into terms meaningful to executive and clinical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and drive architectural alignment across teams and organizational boundaries without direct reporting authority.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills applied to complex, multi‑platform trade‑off decisions, with a clear standard for documented architectural rationale.
  • Understanding of ITIL or service management frameworks sufficient to make informed design decisions for service‑oriented and operational workloads.
  • Familiarity with security‑by‑design principles: zero‑trust architecture, OAuth 2.0 / OpenID Connect (OIDC) identity federation, secrets management, and data classification standards.
  • Experience with Git‑based source control, CI/CD pipeline concepts, and infrastructure‑as‑code practices within a governed enterprise development environment.
Benefits
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Paid time off
  • Tuition Reimbursement
  • 401K
  • Paid time to volunteer in your local community
