Job summary

Werner Enterprises, Inc. is seeking a mobile Service Truck Mechanic to repair tractors and trailers within a 60‑mile radius and at customer yards. The role requires diagnosing and fixing mechanical, electrical, and tire issues on-site, and driving a service truck between locations.

This is a safety sensitive position with responsibilities for documenting work performed. Hourly/annual compensation will reflect experience, with benefits including medical, dental, vision, a 401(k) plan, and

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years truck and trailer repair experience.
• Ability to read and write.
• Good communications skills.
• Basic computer knowledge and data entry experience.
• Valid driver's license and good driving record.

Responsibilities

• Repair trucks and trailers on-site, including tires, fuel filters, batteries, brakes, and related components.
• Drive service truck to/from job sites and maintain the vehicle.
• Document parts used and labor times for completed repairs.
• Communicate with Shop Manager and Road Breakdown during service calls.
• Restock parts and assist with on-site maintenance as needed.

Job description

The main purpose of this position is to travel within a 60 mile general radius to repair Tractors / Trailers that need roadside assistance and to make repairs to Tractors/ Trailers that are located at customers shipping yards or parking lots. Due to the nature of the essential job functions of this role, this is a safety sensitive position.

Essential Job Functions

• Repair trucks and trailers to include tire repair and/or tire replacement. Replace fuel filters, jump start trucks or refrigerated trailers. Replace batteries, alternators, trailer door seals, trailer dolly legs, trailer doors and hardware, wheel seals, air brake systems repairs, coolant leaks, patch holes in trailer roof, side panels, and floor. Repair electrical and lighting problems, repair suspension and air ride systems, weld and repair mud flap brackets, ICC bumpers, and other components that may need welding. Any other mechanic repairs that can be done outside of the shop building.
• Communicate with Shop Manager, Road Breakdown by using cell phone or 2-way radio.
• Fill out work orders and document parts used and labor times for repairs completed.
• Drive service truck from shop to service site and return to the shop. Keep service truck fueled and complete proper maintenance to keep service truck operational. Keep service truck clean.
• Keep service truck parts inventoried and restock parts as needed. This includes taking along parts that maybe needed to compete repairs on site.
• Any additional duties requested by shop manager.
