Job summary

Wonderful Orchards is seeking a mid-level fuel truck operator to support the shop manager by inspecting and fueling farm equipment and vehicles.

You will complete logs and ensure DOT/CHP compliance, assist mechanics with inspections and maintenance, and work independently or with others on assigned tasks in a busy shop environment.

Qualifications

  • Valid Commercial California Driver’s License (class A or B) with reliable transportation.
  • Able to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Works effectively individually or on a team to complete goals or tasks.
  • Identifying hazardous materials through labeling, SDS, and visual inspection for proper handling procedures.
  • Wearing PPE appropriately based on materials and tasks.
  • Adhere to local, state, and federal hazmat regulations.
  • Understand safety procedures including PPE usage and emergency protocols.
  • Follow procedures to identify hazardous materials.

Responsibilities

  • Fuel and inspect farming equipment and heavy-duty vehicles.
  • Perform preventive maintenance such as oil and filter changes.
  • Service vehicles per BIT regulations and assist with brake systems inspections.
  • Assist mechanics in inspections of steering, suspension, and cooling systems.
  • Repair and replace fuel hoses and fittings.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area.
  • Record driving hours and fueling logs accurately.

Compensation: USD 23.5 - 25.5 per hour

Job Description

Mid-level fuel truck operator position. Employee works for the shop manager. Performs inspection and fueling of farm equipment and vehicles. Can inspect heavy duty trucks according to DOT and CHP rules and regulations. Must be able to fill out and maintain log books or comparable means of keeping driving hours logged as well as fueling sheets and keep track of gallons used. Capable of completing assigned tasks independently as well as with other mechanics. Any other tasks assigned by shop management.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Use safe practices and principles working around equipment and machinery
  • Fuel and inspect farming equipment
  • Perform preventative maintenance by changing oil and filters as well as other parts
  • Service and inspect heavy duty vehicles as per BIT regulations
  • Assist mechanics in inspections on air brake systems
  • Assist mechanics in inspecting steering, suspension, wheel bearings, engine cooling systems, Air filter systems, HVAC, hydraulic systems
  • Repair and replace fuel hoses and fittings
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area
  • Any other tasks or responsibilities assigned by shop management
Additional Functions
  • Driving heavy duty trucks
  • Keeping all required documentation and licensing current and legible
Qualifications

Critical/Functional Skills

  • Valid Commercial California Driver’s License (class A or B) with reliable transportation to and from work

  • Works effectively individually or on a team to complete goals or tasks
  • Accurately identifying hazardous materials through labeling, safety data sheets (SDS), and visual inspection to determine proper handling procedures
  • Selecting and properly wearing appropriate PPE based on the hazardous materials being handled / the task being performed, including respirators, gloves, suits, and safety eyewear
  • Staying informed about and adhering to all local, state, and federal regulations related to hazardous materials handling
  • Strong understanding of safety procedures, including proper use of PPE, emergency response protocols, and chemical compatibility
  • Ability to follow strict procedures and accurately identify hazardous materials

Functional Skills (Hard skills/ job-specific)

  • Properly packaging and labeling hazardous materials according to regulatory standards to ensure safe transport and storage
  • Loading, unloading, and securing objects / hazardous materials following all safety protocols and regulations
  • Effective communication to relay information regarding hazardous materials incidents and safety concerns
  • Ability to quickly assess situations involving hazardous materials and make appropriate decisions in emergency scenarios

Education and/or Experience

No formal education or experience is required for this position. High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.

Certifications and Licenses

Class A or B with tanks endorsement; Haz-Mat endorsement a plus.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $23.50–$25.50 hourly. Final compensation will be dependent upon skills & experience.
