Qualifications

  • Completion of five-year trade school with a certificate in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning or 6 years related experience.
  • EPA Universal Certification, Professional License Preferred (HVAC Journeyman, Boiler Operator, etc).
  • State driver’s license, auto insurance, auto registration, acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Servicing products and equipment on assigned projects to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain HVAC and building control systems using hand-tools and blueprints.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, site surveys, and modifications as requested by customers.
  • Document work with daily time, progress, and duration; maintain accurate records and part usage.
  • Coordinate on-site work, gather materials, and ensure jobs are completed within hours and budget.
  • Train or mentor tradesmen, apprentices, or shop technicians as needed.

Summary Description

With safety being top priority, service technician will be responsible for operating, repairing, and maintaining equipment including HVAC, building control systems, systems involving electric and pneumatic air flow, water flow, gas/electric heating and cooling equipment, boilers, valves, apparatus and lines used in the distribution of heated, chilled or processed water, computerized building management system, variable frequency drive units, and computerized maintenance management systems.

Primary Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Responsible for servicing products and equipment on assigned projects and ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • Uses a variety of hand-tools, following blueprints or engineering specifications, to diagnose and repair units.
  • Identifies, analyzes, diagnoses, and repairs systems and products.
  • Performs preventative maintenance, site surveys, replacement, and modifications as needed or requested by customers.
  • Prepares for on-site installation and repairs by examining building layout, anticipating difficulties, gathering materials, and coordinating on-site work as necessary.
  • Maintains equipment by inspecting for signs of wear.
  • Represents the company by serving as a direct customer contact.
  • Insures jobs are completed within allotted hours and in budget.
  • Assists in ordering parts for repairs and timeliness of need.
  • Documents work by completing paperwork on each job, including daily time, progress, and duration; and maintaining files. Turns in paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Records parts, material, labor, subs, and other cost data per assignment and returns unused resources.
  • Read and interpret product specifications, understands building specifications, drawings and designs.
  • Flexibility to work overtime/weekends/on call rotation as necessary.
  • Train, direct or mentor activity and work product of tradesmen, apprentices, or shop technicians as needed.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.
  • Maintains company equipment, truck, assigned tools, and shop equipment.
Qualifications

Education And/Or Experience

Completion of five-year trade school with a certificate in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning or 6 years related experience. Equivalent combination of education and experience considered. Above average math skills, ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical design schematics. Ability to evaluate standard technical situations and troubleshoot common operator mistakes that lead to improper system operation.

Communication Skills

Ability to read and understand simple instructions, short correspondence, notes, letters, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to read and understand documents such as policy manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions in person-to-person and small group situations with customers, clients, general public, and other employees of the organization.

Working And/Or Environmental Conditions

This position is performed in a mechanical/equipment room environment. Requires working outdoors, possibly in extreme weather conditions. Requires heavy auto travel, exposing employee to hazardous weather conditions and other inherent traffic hazards. While performing the duties of this job, during job site visits, the employee is frequently exposed to risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
