Job summary

Kenco Logistics is seeking a Service Technician Lead to coach and train a team of technicians, supervise daily maintenance tasks, and drive safety and quality across all equipment and conveyors. You will perform diagnostics, tune-ups, and repairs while mentoring technicians in advanced techniques and ensuring OSHA compliance.

The role requires leadership, strong problem-solving, and the ability to travel regionally as needed to support sites and training initiatives.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED or tech school graduate required.
  • 6-8 years of mechanic experience, preferably with material handling equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily work assignments and directions to technicians based on priorities and needs.
  • Repair and maintain material handling equipment, automated systems, and conveyors.
  • Lead and mentor technicians with hands-on instruction and real-time coaching.
  • Ensure safety, PPE use, lockout/tagout, and OSHA compliance.
  • Coordinate parts, inventory records, and service issues.
  • Travel regionally or nationally for training and site support as needed.

The position is expected to coach and train teammates to fulfill their individual daily tasks in addition to the Lead’s own tasks. The role will be responsible for performing general maintenance, repairs and preventative maintenance with all Material Handling Equipment, automated systems, and conveyors involving all customers and vendors of Kenco Fleet Services.FunctionsProvide daily work assignments and directions to technicians based on priorities, skill levels, customer commitments, and operational needs.Repair and maintain all Material Handling Equipment, automated systems, and conveyors using standards set by site.Champion safety by prioritizing safe work practices and modeling exemplary behavior through proper PPE use, lockout/tagout adherence, and full compliance with safety protocols.Measure and increase utilization of technicians.Responsible for the resolution of all service, parts, and warranty issues.Actively train and mentor technicians through hands-on instruction, demonstration of proper techniques, and real-time coaching.Provide hands-on instruction for advanced diagnostic techniques using multimeters, oscilloscopes, pressure gauges, diagnostic software, and specialized testing equipment.Inspects forklifts, automated systems, conveyors, and other operating equipment to ensure compliance with OSHA and operational standards.Use manuals, repair manuals, parts manuals, parts diagrams to troubleshoot engines, engine fuel systems, transmissions, or other components on material handling equipment, automated systems, and conveyors.Manage equipment condition and support repair readiness by reporting damage, coordinating required parts, and maintaining accurate service and inventory records.Communicate with Parts team on parts and supplies needed to maintain equipment.Maintain parts inventory, repair and preventative maintenance records for all equipment by completing accurate paperwork.Conducts tests of safety equipment to ensure OSHA and operational standards.Undertake regional or national travel as needed for training delivery, site support, equipment installations, special projects, or coverage of understaffed locations.Conduct new hire orientations covering company culture, policies, procedures, safety requirements, and expectations for performance and conduct.Model exemplary professionalism and clear communication in all interactions, translating technical information into understandable language that helps customers comprehend equipment status and repair options while setting the standard for team conduct.Responsible for general cleanliness of service area always.Take ownership of site KPI performance by tracking metrics, addressing obstacles to target achievement, and leading the technician team to meet or exceed efficiency, quality, and safety goals.Take personal ownership of professional growth by identifying skill gaps, knowledge areas needing improvement, and capabilities that would enhance job performance.Adhere to 5S workplace organization principles (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) to maintain general cleanliness and ensure an organized efficient and safe service area at all times.Support the Kenco Operating System by identifying ways to work more safely, efficiently, and effectively, and sharing ideas that help the team and company get better.QualificationsHigh school diploma, G.E.D. or tech school graduate required.6-8 years of mechanic experience required; preferably prior experience with repair and maintenance of material handling or similar equipment.Gold level Toyota forklift certification or equivalent preferredAbility to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems on multiple types of equipment.Able to read and understand electrical and hydraulic system schematics.Ability to lead others and interact with customers.Must be able to frequently lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 lbs.Supply own mechanic technician hand tools.Must be able to safely operate lift trucks.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.CompetenciesAction Oriented - Taking on new opportunities and tough challenges with a sense of urgency, high energy, and enthusiasm.Collaborates - Building partnerships and working collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives.Decision Quality - Making good and timely decisions that keep the organization moving forward.Optimizes Work Processes - Knowing the most effective and efficient processes to get things done, with a focus on continuous improvement.Situational Adaptability - Adapting approach and demeanor in real time to match the shifting demands of different situations.Travel RequirementsThis position is expected to travel approximately 25% or less.A passport is not required, but recommended.DisclosuresThe statements above are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by employees assigned to this job.
