Job summary

Kenworth Sales Company in Boise, Idaho, is seeking a Journeyman Service Technician to perform high-quality repairs on customer equipment and advise on additional services as needed. The role is on the second shift (3:30 PM to midnight) and requires solid heavy-duty truck repair experience and hands-on diagnostic skills.

You will receive repair orders, follow procedures, document work, participate in training, and mentor apprentices.

Qualifications

• Must read, write, and understand English.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Five years' experience as a heavy-duty truck repair technician.
• Knowledge of heavy truck repair methods.
• CDL preferred and clean driving record.
• Ability to operate power and hand tools safely.
• Excellent organization and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Receive repair order assignments from Service Manager/Foreman.
• Follow instructions and complete work thoroughly and efficiently.
• Maintain high workmanship standards on all services.
• Advise Foreman of recommended changes to services.
• Determine if further repairs should be recommended to the customer and communicate with Foreman.
• Maintain training/experience with equipment and servicing techniques.
• Attend required training sessions.
• Perform additional repairs as needed for issues due to workmanship.
• Maintain accurate work order records and time clocked on jobs.
• Follow warranty vendor guidelines and keep service desk informed.
• Handle after-hours callouts professionally and promptly.
• Mentor apprentices and provide on-the-job training.

Salary Minimum and Maximum:$32-$42

JOB SUMMARY:

The primary function of the Journeyman Service Technician is to perform superior quality repairs tocustomer equipment and make recommendations for further services as determined by the Technician during service.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Receives repair order assignments from Service Manager/Foreman.
• Follows instructions and executes work assignments in repair order thoroughly and efficiently.
• Maintains superior standard of workmanship in all services performed.
• Advices Shop Foreman of any recommended changes in services ordered by the customer.
• Determines if any further repairs or servicing should be recommended to the customer and communicates such recommendations to the Shop Foreman.
• Maintains a level of training and experience with specialized equipment, machinery, and servicing techniques necessary for superior servicing of the customer’s equipment.
• Attends training sessions as required by the Service Manager.
• Performs additional repairs as required when any piece of equipment is returned by customer because of Technician’s faulty workmanship.
• Maintain accurate work order records of work performed and time clocked on jobs.
• Follow warranty vendor guidelines while keeping the service desk informed. Ensure that all parts are properly marked, retained, and handled according to the vendors’ warranty requirements.
• Accept and represent the department in all assigned after hours call out situations, ensuring timely response, professional communication, and proper resolution of issues.
• Assist in developing apprentice technicians by providing guidance and on the job training as directed by the Service Manager/Foreman ensuring skill growth and adherence to department standards.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Ability to read, write, and comprehend English instructions and information
• High school diploma or the equivalent
• Five years of experience as a heavy-duty truck repair technician with an emphasis on engine repair
• Working knowledge of all heavy truck repair methods
• Ability to operate power and hand tools and other equipment safely
• Working knowledge of P/C and Computers Excellent organization and communication skills
• Valid Commercial Driver's License preferred and good driving record.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This is a physically demanding position. Will stand six to eight hours per shift. Will stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, handle and feel. Will lift parts weighing up to 50 pounds. Will use hand and power tools, hoist and test equipment. Will be exposed to noise, vibration, dust, exhaust fumes, paint, and other hazardous and nonhazardous materials.
