Job summary

North Central Irrigation is seeking a Service Technician in Beloit or Plainfield, WI. You will gain knowledge of center pivot irrigation operations and perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, service, and installation of irrigation equipment.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of 480 volt 3 phase electricity, multimeter, 120 volt control circuits, and wiring schematics.
  • Must provide own hand tools.
  • High School or GED required; trade certificate programs preferred.
  • Knowledge of the agriculture industry and irrigation systems preferred.
  • Prefer several years of prior work experience utilizing mechanical and electrical systems knowledge, but not necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Wire and test new and used irrigation equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electric-driven irrigation systems, including radio controls, GPS controls, and pivot functionality.
  • Attend meetings and training opportunities to learn new technology and equipment as it becomes available.
  • Help build and repair center pivot irrigation systems.
  • Possess ability to work alone on assigned projects.

North Central Irrigationis hiring aService Technicianto join our team in Beloit or Plainfield, WI. In this role, you will acquire overall general knowledge of center pivot irrigation operations to be able to perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, service, and installation of irrigation equipment.

North Central Irrigation was founded in 1966 to serve the farming community of central Wisconsin. Today, we have stores in Plainfield, WI, and Beloit, WI, with a staff of close to 20 qualified men and women serving our customers in Wisconsin and northern Illinois. Essential Job Functions:

  • Wire and test new and used irrigation equipment.
  • Perform various activities such as climbing, carrying tools, and operating a mini excavator, trucks, and trailers
  • Good diagnostic skills in mechanical and electrical troubleshooting.
  • Ability to repair standard and VFD pump panels.
  • Attend meetings and training opportunities to learn new technology and equipment as it becomes available.
  • Help build and repair center pivot irrigation systems
  • Troubleshoot and repair electric-driven irrigation systems, including radio controls, GPS controls, and pivot functionality
  • Ability to ultimately work alone on assigned projects.
  • Knowledge of the pivot control panel function and system telemetry, acquired through on-the-job training
  • Ability to use powered hand tools, diagnostic tools, and systems
  • Use & navigate various computer programs for systems diagnostic work
  • Participate in continuous training programs required for the development of skills & knowledge

Supplemental Job Functions:

  • Perform general maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
  • Assist other departments as needed, flexibly, knowing that work assistance is often provided and/or support situations to keep equipment operational.
  • Billing accuracy is maintained through the efficient use of work orders

Qualifications:

Education and Experience

  • Knowledge of 480 volt 3 phase electricity, multimeter,120 volt control circuits, and wiring schematics
  • Knowledge of operating a laptop, including the Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • Must provide own hand tools
  • Knowledge of test equipment, volt/ohm meters, wire /fault finders
  • High School or GED required; trade certificate programs preferred.
  • Knowledge of the agriculture industry and Irrigation systems preferred.
  • Prefer several years of prior work experience utilizing mechanical & electrical systems knowledge, but not necessary

Physical Demands and Working Environment

  • Sometimes work in inclement weather (cold weather, hot weather).
  • Possibility of wet and muddy fields (Dress properly and work efficiently despite conditions)
  • Constant/Occasional/Frequent lifts, pulls, pushes, twists, stoops, bends, and climbs
  • Occasional lifts of objects weighing up to 75 pounds

  • Overnight hotel stay (potentially short notice) minimizing customer downtime, when work is out of town.
  • Average 50 hours/week with more in spring & summer
  • Self-Motivated since experience may mean working alone on projects
  • Maintain a professional appearance since we represent the company to our clients
  • Strong work ethic, high level of craftsmanship, and attention to detail
  • Excellent organizational qualities and time management are required in this highly interchangeable environment

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations

  • Must have or be able to obtain a commercial driver’s license (CDL).
  • Must have a clean driving record.

Communication

  • Creation of a valued customer partnership and a resolution of concerns
  • Skilled in speaking with the customer, especially in problem diagnosis, project status & updates, as well as skilled in the written word
  • Additional communication with service/parts employees and shop managers

Relationships

  • Skilled at emailing and speaking with team members on project status, asking for assistance, personal development, etc.
