Job summary

Job description

Summary

The Forklift Battery Technician is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and installing customers’ forklift batteries and chargers in various material handling equipment. The technician must verify that all batteries and chargers meet safety standards, maintain working knowledge and proficiency in all OSHA and local requirements related to all assigned work, and be extremely safety conscious to avoid injury from acid, fumes, electric shock, or chemical explosions.

Responsibilities
  • Communicate with suppliers about warranty issues.
  • Burn lead to make connections and caselight connectors.
  • Diagnose batteries, adjust acid, rebuild by replacing cells, connectors, cables, etc.
  • Monitor and request supplies used in battery charger and repair shop, such as acids, cells, tape, connectors, etc.
  • Keep inventory of all changing system parts.
  • Perform all repairs to changers and systems.
  • Charge, rotate, clean, and water batteries.
  • Build relationships with internal and external customers and vendors.
  • Receive new batteries, record serial numbers, and maintain battery inventory records.
  • Provide high-quality battery and charger service to customers.
  • Identify and address problems and opportunities for the company.
  • Perform other duties as required by management.
  • Manage work and shop area to keep clean and safe in compliance with all safety policies.
  • Use manuals, repair manuals, parts diagrams to troubleshoot components on material handling equipment.
  • Safely use lift trucks, overhead cranes, & other aids to lift or move batteries into position for repair.
  • Use computers to reference parts and enter data.
  • Climb onto, under, and into vehicles, use hand & power tools to disassemble/reassemble.
  • Attend training classes and keep current on product advancements.
  • Ability to work as a team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Provide world‑class customer service and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Lift up to 75 lbs. (and occasionally more than 75 lbs.).
Work Experience Requirements

Minimum 2 years’ experience in the battery business.

Qualifications

Working knowledge of electrical circuits and electronics.

Education / Certification / License Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Certified Forklift Operator.

Work Conditions / Physical Demands

Work is performed in a maintenance shop environment with potential exposure to moving mechanical parts, dust, fumes, chemicals, or solvents. The physical ability to perform continuously with full-body motion for climbing, reaching, pushing, and lifting is required. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs. (and occasionally in excess of 75 lbs.). Must be able to pass a DOT physical and drug screen. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
