Job description

As a Service Plumber II, you'll take on greater independence in commercial plumbing service, performing routine to moderately complex repairs, maintenance, installations, and troubleshooting across systems in office buildings, schools, hospitals, retail spaces, and industrial facilities. Building on foundational skills, you'll handle pipe repairs, fixture replacements, backflow testing, leak detection, and preventive maintenance with increasing confidence, while assisting senior plumbers on advanced calls and beginning to guide entry‑level team members. Our people-first culture supports your mid-level growth with hands‑on training, certifications, mentorship, and clear advancement paths, enabling you to develop expertise and contribute to reliable, code‑compliant plumbing systems that keep commercial facilities safe, efficient, and sustainable nationwide.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Independently perform preventive maintenance, inspections, flushing, pressure testing, and minor repairs on commercial plumbing systems, including domestic water, drainage, hydronic heating/cooling, backflow devices, fixtures, and valves.
  • Diagnose and repair common issues such as leaks, clogs, fixture malfunctions, pump problems, and pipe corrosion, with guidance on more complex cases.
  • Handle installations and replacements of fixtures, faucets, water heaters, pumps, and piping segments per blueprints, codes, and specifications.
  • Conduct backflow prevention testing (if certified), water quality checks, and system optimizations to ensure performance and compliance.
  • Lead standard service calls: assess on‑site issues, communicate clearly with customers about problems/solutions/timelines, coordinate parts/materials, execute work, and follow up for satisfaction.
  • Document all activities accurately (work orders, service reports, photos, recommendations) and maintain records for billing, warranty, and quality tracking.
  • Assist senior plumbers (Level III+) on advanced repairs, medical gas work (if applicable), or large‑system jobs; begin mentoring Level I plumbers by demonstrating techniques and safety practices.
  • Maintain clean, organized work areas, vehicles, tools, and PPE; adhere to all safety protocols, plumbing codes, and company standards.
Supervisory Responsibilities

None (mid-level individual contributor role; provides informal guidance and mentoring to Level I plumbers under supervision of senior techs or leads).

Requirements/Qualifications
  • Experience: 2–5 years of hands‑on commercial plumbing service, repair, installation, and maintenance experience; demonstrated ability to work independently on routine to moderately complex tasks.
  • Education: High school diploma or GED required; trade school, vocational training, apprenticeship, or equivalent preferred.
  • Certifications/Licenses: Valid journeyman plumber license (or ability to obtain in assigned jurisdiction) preferred; backflow prevention certification a plus; valid driver's license and clean driving record required.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 50 lbs, climb ladders/scaffolding/stairs, work in confined spaces or at heights, bend/kneel/crouch, reach overhead, and use tools/equipment for extended periods; frequent standing, walking, manual dexterity, and physical stamina required.
  • Work Environment/Safety: Primarily field‑based in commercial/industrial settings (indoor/outdoor, mechanical rooms, rooftops, varying weather); exposure to noise, dust, heights, water, sewage, chemicals, and confined‑space hazards; must strictly adhere to OSHA regulations, plumbing codes, conduct hazard identification, and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, respirators (as needed), and steel‑toed boots at all times—safety is our top priority and non‑negotiable. This is a safety‑sensitive position. Frequent regional travel within assigned market, on‑call rotations, and flexible hours (including evenings/weekends/emergencies) may be required as business needs dictate.
Required Skills
  • Solid troubleshooting and repair across commercial plumbing systems (domestic water, drainage, hydronic, backflow, fixtures).
  • Proficiency with plumbing tools (pipe cutters/threaders, torches, pressure testers, drain snakes, diagnostic equipment).
  • Customer communication, problem‑solving, and documentation/reporting skills.
  • Safety awareness, teamwork, and eagerness to learn advanced systems/mentoring.
  • Code compliance basics (IPC/UPC), multitasking, and ability to work under moderate pressure.
