Job summary

United Rentals is seeking a Service Manager in Raleigh, NC, to lead a high-performing maintenance team within the Power/HVAC Division. You will supervise technicians and equipment associates, drive safety, quality, and on-time service for a diverse fleet of generators, chillers, and related assets.

You will partner with the Branch Manager to optimize operations, manage shop expenses, and build strong customer relationships through proactive maintenance and reliable service.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 3–5 years of operations and shop management experience in maintenance.
• Diagnostic and repair skills for mechanical, hydraulic, diesel, and electrical systems.
• Advanced knowledge of heavy equipment and warranty/work order processes.
• Valid driver's license with clean record.
• Strong leadership and customer service skills.
• Experience with maintenance accounting and P&L.

Responsibilities

• Supervise preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of equipment.
• Motivate, coach, and train technicians to meet time and quality standards.
• Supervise service technicians and ensure safety policies are followed.
• Build strong customer relationships through high-quality service.
• Manage shop operating expenses and continuous performance improvement.
• Meet with Branch Managers regularly to discuss issues and solutions.
• Perform other duties as needed.

You’ll have the opportunity to hire and motivate an amazing team of Service Technicians and Equipment Associates. You will maintain and repair a variety of specialty rental equipment and support assets assigned to the Power/HVAC fleet to ensure safe operation and readiness for rental. You will work closely with the Branch Manager, and help build a profitable location with your leadership, service and maintenance knowledge, and business management.**What you'll do:*** Supervise the preventative maintenance, trouble shooting, and repair of a variety of equipment, including but not limited to the following: Silent Diesel Generators 20kw to 1.5MW; Air–Cooled Chillers 10 to 400 Tons; Rental Industry Air-Conditioners 5 to 40 Tons; Desiccant Dehumidifiers and Negative Air Machines; Electrical Distribution; Load Banks* Motivate, coach and train technicians to exceed time & quality standards and comply with standard repair and maintenance processes* Supervise Service Technicians, ensuring safety policies and procedures are followed at all times* Build strong customer relationships through the delivery of high quality and timely customer service* Apply United Rental policies to maximize productivity while maintaining a safe work environment in a clean, organized facility* Manage the shop operating expenses* Lead, plan, measure and continuous improvement of all service and maintenance performance metrics* Meet on regular basis with Branch Managers, reporting any problems and discussing possible solutions* Other duties assigned as needed**Requirements:*** High school diploma or equivalent* 3-5 years of operations and shop management experience with background in repairing and maintaining the equipment stated above* Intermediate to advanced diagnostic and repair skills for mechanical, hydraulic, diesel, pneumatic and other systems* Advanced knowledge of heavy equipment, the manufacturers’ warranty process, and the work order / time spent accounting process* Experience on diesel, hydraulic and electrical systems that allows for independent assessment and diagnosis in most situations* Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record* Strong motivational and leadership skills* Excellent customer service skills* Strong knowledge of maintenance accounting and P&L* Basic computer skills (Excel)This position is deemed Safety Sensitive for purposes of United Rentals’ policies and procedures. # ***Why join us?***We don’t just “talk the talk!” We’re an award-winning company (recently named a Glassdoor Best Place to Work in 2026) that truly cares about our people - That’s why we offer best-in-class benefits and perks that will support you and your family.
