Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an experienced Cost Estimator in Atlanta, GA to support Service Account Managers by developing quotes for service maintenance agreements and repairs. You will build detailed cost estimates, define bid scope, and identify cost-saving opportunities while managing risk across construction projects.

You will collaborate with vendors, sub-contractors, and internal teams to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery, leveraging lean practices and strong financial acumen.

Qualifications

• Degree preferred with 3–5 years related experience or HVAC tech experience.
• Experience across construction mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems preferred.
• Experience with financials, budgeting and on-time, on-budget project execution.

Responsibilities

• Create quotes for service maintenance agreements and repairs to support Account Managers.
• Prepare cost estimates including materials, sub-contractors, labor, and equipment.
• Develop detailed scope from design-build inputs.
• Identify cost-saving opportunities and risk items on projects.
• Negotiate with vendors/sub-contractors to optimize costs.
• Lead pre-bid meetings with Account Managers to review scope and strategy.
• Participate in lean improvements activities.

Job description

• Create quotes for service maintenance agreements and all service repairs in support of our Service Account Managers and Controls Service Account Managers.
• Responsible for the cost estimates consisting of materials, sub-contractors, purchased equipment, labor (repair work, maintenance work, etc.), and other construction-related activities created by personnel to assist Account Managers in bidding on or determining price of project.
• Develops detailed scope based on Account Managers design-build scope.
• Creates detailed cost estimates including scope definition, exceptions/exclusions, preliminary proposal, vendor/sub-contractor quotes, and points list.
• Responsible for identifying possible cost saving opportunities and/or risk items that will occur on various projects.
• Maintains competitive advantage by staying current with industry standards.
• Develops the scope of work for sub-contractors.
• Optimizes job costs by negotiating prices with vendors/sub-contractors through quotations for materials and services.
• Responsible for holding job pre-bid meeting with Account Managers to review scope, strategy, etc.
• Participate in and contribute to lean improvements activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Associates degree in engineering, engineering technology or related study preferred with minimum of three (3) to five (5) years’ related experience; or technical certificate with five (5) years related experience; or HVAC Technician experience with combination of education and related field experience.
• Working knowledge of all facets of construction including mechanical, electrical, plumbing systems, etc. preferred.
• Experience with financial and business acumen and a history of running projects on time and on budget.
• Proven experience prioritizing tasks in order to meet tight deadlines within a high-paced environment with attention to detail.
• Experience working directly with building owners is a plus.
• Flexibility to work overtime/weekends, as required.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license for a minimum of 12 months, with no major or frequent traffic violations included, but not limited to: DUI, Hit & Run, License Suspension, Reckless/Careless Driving or multiple smaller infractions or preventable collisions in the previous 3 years.
