Job summary

KONE is hiring a Service Engineer to support marine vessel elevator and escalator maintenance across regions. You will manage on-site customer communications, perform troubleshooting, and coordinate commissioning and handovers in collaboration with supervisors.

You should hold a bachelor’s degree in Electronics or Electro-Mechanical Engineering or have 7 years of equivalent experience, possess strong problem-solving skills, and be willing to travel up to 50% including time aboard ships.

Qualifications

  • 3 years experience debugging PCB assemblies, wiring harnesses and electromechanical systems.
  • 3 years reading and interpreting marine elevator diagrams for field support.
  • 3 years identifying European elevator spare parts to ensure availability.
  • 3 years with motion and closed-loop controls on elevators for on-site troubleshooting.
  • 3 years with analog and digital interface control on elevators for on-site troubleshooting.
  • 2 years performing annual inspections of European elevators to ensure regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate on-site customer communication and site safety.
  • Resolve complex elevator/escalator issues, including commissioning and troubleshooting.
  • Perform initial visits of unknown equipment from competitors or KONE.
  • Assist supervisor with installation maintenance handover.
  • Report safety-impacting technical issues to the appropriate teams.
  • Identify technical gaps and communicate them to the supervisor.
  • Provide repair feedback to reduce call-outs; liaise with specialists and the helpdesk.
  • Ensure safe working practices per maintenance and safety instructions.
  • Plan workload with the service supervisor.
  • Contribute to product and safety improvements with feedback to the organization.
  • Travel up to 50%, including time aboard ships.

Key Responsibilities
  • Accountable for the end-user's communication with customer on-site marine vessel and the site safety.
  • Resolve complex technical issues including commissioning certifications of elevators and escalators and complex troubleshooting by applying the correct analysis procedures.
  • Perform first visits of unknown equipment coming from competitors or KONE.
  • Responsible for evaluating and assisting the supervisor with the Installation Maintenance handover.
  • Communicate new technical issues found with the equipment that could cause potential safety hazards.
  • Responsible for actively identifying any technical competence gap caused by new equipment in service (both from competitor and from new equipment) and communicate it to supervisor / technical helpdesk.
  • Provide feedback on any repair or adjustment that could reduce call outs and actively communicate with Clinical Specialists, Clinical Analysts and Technical Helpdesk.
  • Responsible for safe working practices and carrying out the operations according to maintenance instructions and safety instructions.
  • Responsible for effectively planning workload in conjunction with the service supervisor.
  • Contribute to the ongoing improvement of the products, methods and safety by providing feedback to the SM (Service Manager) organization and supervisor.
  • Up to 50% international and domestic travel required; this position requires time spent aboard ships at sea.
What you will need to be successful

This position requires a minimum of a bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent, in Electronics Engineering, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, and 3 years of experience in the position offered or in a similar Engineering position. Alternatively, in lieu of a bachelor’s degree, employer will accept, no degree and 7 years of experience in the position offered or in a similar Engineering position. Employer will accept any suitable combination of education, training, or experience. Additionally, a qualified applicant’s experience must include the following:

  • (1) 3 years of experience in de-bugging of Printed Circuit Board assemblies, wiring harnesses, electromechanical assemblies and systems;
  • (2) 3 years of experience with reading, analyzing, and interpreting technical procedures of marine elevator diagrams in order to provide field support;
  • (3) 3 years of experience identifying European elevator supply of spare parts in order to ensure necessary parts are available for necessary elevator maintenance;
  • (4) 3 years of experience with motion and closed loop controls on elevators in order to fix complex troubleshoot on-site;
  • (5) 3 years of experience with analog and digital interface control on elevators in order to fix complex troubleshooting on-site;
  • (6) 2 years of experience with performing annual inspections of European elevators in order to ensure elevators comply with local and country regulations.
