Position Summary

The Residential & Light Commercial Service Electrician is responsible for executing diagnostic, repair, installation, and maintenance electrical work across residential homes and light commercial facilities. Operating as an individual contributor, this role creates value by delivering safe, code-compliant, high-quality service directly to customers while maintaining excellent communication and minimizing callbacks.

This role owns execution from dispatch to closeout—troubleshooting issues, providing clear job explanations to customers, maintaining material inventory on the van, enforcing safety standards, and ensuring accurate service records.

Responsibilities

1. Service Execution & Technical Troubleshooting

  • Execute residential and light commercial electrical service calls, panel upgrades, device installs, rewiring, lighting controls, and troubleshooting.

  • Diagnose complex electrical issues safely, accurately identify root causes, and propose effective solution options to the customer.

  • Complete all work to applicable electrical codes (NEC), local ordinances, company standards, and customer expectations.

  • Maintain a clean, organized work area and protect customer property during all service activities.

2. Customer Service & Communication

  • Act as the primary, professional face of the company on job sites.

  • Explain technical issues, scope of work, and repair options to homeowners and facility managers in clear, accessible language.

  • Provide early, proactive updates to leadership and dispatch regarding job progress, unexpected site constraints, additional scope, or schedule shifts.

  • Obtain customer sign-offs and ensure complete customer satisfaction prior to departing the site.

3. Quality Control & Callback Prevention

  • Perform disciplined self-checks on all completed connections, voltage readings, device fits, and cover plates before leaving the site.

  • Verify that all tools, trash, and spare materials are cleared from the work area.

  • Maintain first-pass quality to eliminate avoidable rework, missed items, and return trips.

4. Safety & Compliance

  • Adhere strictly to safe electrical work practices, OSHA regulations, and company safety policies on every call.

  • Utilize required PPE, lockout/tagout procedures, voltage verification, and ladder/lift safety practices at all times.

  • Identify and mitigate site hazard risks prior to beginning work.

5. Reporting, Administrative & Van Management

  • Submit accurate, detailed work orders, labor hours, material lists, and job notes promptly via Jobber.

  • Keep service van stocked, clean, organized, and routinely inventoried.

  • Manage company tools, diagnostic equipment, and materials responsibly to prevent loss or damage.

Qualifications

  • Journeyman Electrician License preferred (or equivalent documented residential/light commercial service experience).

  • 3+ years of experience performing electrical troubleshooting, repairs, and service upgrades in residential and light commercial environments.

  • In-depth knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and residential wiring methods.

  • Proven ability to independently troubleshoot complex electrical circuits and equipment.

  • Exceptional customer service skills with a clean, professional demeanor.

  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
