Job summary

Smart & Final is seeking a Service Clerk for the Vallejo store to deliver excellent customer service and assist with shopping, pricing checks, and merchandise replenishment. Starting rate is $16.90 per hour, with tasks including cart handling, assisting customers to load purchases, and maintaining cleanliness.

The role requires reading and writing English, ability to lift up to 60 pounds, and good interpersonal skills to engage with customers and team members at the Vallejo location.

Qualifications

• Read and write English, interact with general public and co-workers.
• Read and comprehend simple instructions, product labels, pricing codes, shelf tags, and memos.
• Write simple correspondence.
• Present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers and colleagues.
• Follow written or oral instructions.
• Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently up to 45 pounds, and occasionally up to 60 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Collect and organize shopping carts within the store and retrieve carts from the parking lot and surrounding areas.
• Assist customers with loading merchandise into shopping carts and loading into their vehicles.
• Check retail prices on shelf for check stand personnel.
• Pull merchandise from check stand and return to the proper shelf; walk aisles and return misplaced items to their location.
• Monitor cleanliness of store entrance and restrooms; sweep/mop and empty trash daily.
• Support store maintenance and general upkeep as part of daily duties.

The Opportunity

The Service Clerk reports to the Store Manager/Senior Assistant Manager and is responsible for maintaining carts, assisting customers with purchases and assistance to their cars as requested, checking prices on products, returning merchandise to store shelves, parking lot and store maintenance.

Specific Duties Include, But Are Not Limited To

• Collect and organize shopping carts within the store and retrieve carts from the parking lot and surrounding areas.
• Assist customers with the loading of merchandise into shopping carts. Provide customers with assistance to and loading of their vehicles.
• Check retail prices on shelf for check stand personnel.
• Pull merchandise from check stand (“go backs”) and return it to the proper shelf. Walk aisles and return any misplaced items to their proper location. Face merchandise on aisles as needed.
• Monitor cleanliness of store entrance: sweep front area inside and outside and pick up and empty trash regularly throughout the day, mop outside walkways and clean entrance/exit doors daily.
• Monitor cleanliness of store throughout the day: sweep, mop, and clean and restock restrooms as needed.
