Job summary

Freestate Electrical Companies is seeking an Electrical Service Assistant Project Manager to support planning, estimating, scheduling, procurement, and financial management for commercial, industrial, and institutional electrical service projects.

You will work with Project Managers, field supervisors, union electricians, vendors, and customers to ensure projects are on schedule, within budget, and meet quality standards, with opportunities to advance within a union environment.

Qualifications

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or related field preferred.
  • 3–5 years of commercial electrical construction or electrical service experience.
  • Experience with IBEW union contractor preferred.
  • Experience reading electrical drawings and specifications.
  • Experience with estimating or project coordination preferred.
  • Previous field experience as an electrician or foreman or service coordinator is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Project Managers in managing multiple electrical service projects.
  • Coordinate project activities from award through closeout.
  • Prepare contracts, purchase orders, RFIs, submittals, permits, closeout documents, and project files.
  • Maintain project schedules and monitor milestone completion.
  • Coordinate material deliveries, equipment rentals, and subcontractor activities.
  • Track project progress and communicate updates to project stakeholders.
  • Assist with budgeting, cost tracking, and monthly billing documentation.

Job description

Position Summary

The Electrical Service Assistant Project Manager (APM) supports the successful execution of commercial, industrial, and institutional electrical service projects by assisting with project planning, estimating, scheduling, procurement, financial management, and customer communication. Working closely with Project Managers, field supervisors, union electricians, vendors, and customers, the APM helps ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with company quality standards.

This position is ideal for an individual seeking to advance into a Project Manager role within a union electrical contracting environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Project Coordination
  • Assist Project Managers in managing multiple electrical service projects simultaneously.
  • Coordinate project activities from award through closeout.
  • Prepare project documentation including contracts, purchase orders, RFIs, submittals, permits, closeout documents, and project files.
  • Maintain project schedules and monitor milestone completion.
  • Coordinate material deliveries, equipment rentals, and subcontractor activities.
  • Track project progress and communicate updates to project stakeholders.
Estimating & Preconstruction
  • Assist with preparing service estimates, quotations, and proposals.
  • Review customer requests, drawings, specifications, and field conditions.
  • Solicit vendor and subcontractor pricing.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs and material pricing.
  • Assist in preparing budgets and cost projections.
  • Support change order pricing and documentation.
Financial Management
  • Assist with project budgeting and cost tracking.
  • Review labor productivity reports.
  • Monitor project costs, purchase orders, invoices, and subcontractor billings.
  • Prepare monthly billing documentation.
  • Support project forecasting and revenue projections.
  • Assist with project closeout and final cost analysis.
Customer Service
  • Serve as a secondary point of contact for customers.
  • Maintain professional relationships with facility managers, property managers, general contractors, and owners.
  • Respond promptly to customer requests.
  • Schedule service work and coordinate field activities.
  • Assist in identifying opportunities for additional work.
Field Operations Support
  • Coordinate manpower requirements with field supervisors.
  • Schedule service technicians and union electricians.
  • Perform regular project site visits.
  • Verify project progress, quality, and compliance with contract requirements.
  • Assist with resolving field issues and material shortages.
Procurement
  • Prepare purchase orders.
  • Coordinate material procurement with vendors.
  • Track equipment deliveries.
  • Monitor inventory for ongoing service work.
  • Ensure long-lead materials are ordered on time.
Safety & Quality
  • Promote a culture of safety.
  • Support company safety initiatives and OSHA compliance.
  • Participate in jobsite safety inspections.
  • Ensure quality standards are maintained.
  • Assist in documenting incidents and corrective actions.
Qualifications
Education
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and electrical industry experience will be considered.
Experience
  • 3-5 years of commercial electrical construction or electrical service experience.
  • Experience working for an IBEW signatory (union) electrical contractor is strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting commercial service, renovation, tenant improvement, and small project work.
  • Experience reading electrical drawings and specifications.
  • Experience with estimating or project coordination preferred.
  • Previous field experience as an electrician, foreman, or service coordinator is a plus.
Union Experience Requirements

Candidates should possess working knowledge of:

  • IBEW collective bargaining agreements.
  • Union labor management practices.
  • Hiring hall procedures.
  • Union jurisdictional requirements.
  • Prevailing wage (Davis-Bacon) projects.
  • Project Labor Agreements (PLAs).
  • Certified payroll requirements (preferred).

  • Working collaboratively with union electricians, foremen, and business representatives.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong understanding of commercial electrical construction and service work.
  • Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
  • Ability to read blueprints, specifications, and electrical drawings.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to visit active construction sites daily.
  • Ability to walk uneven terrain and climb stairs and ladders.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to travel between customer locations and project sites.
