Job summary

Oak View Group (OVG) seeks a friendly Server to deliver exceptional guest experiences at events in Waterloo. You will handle banquet service, setup, quick course delivery, and teamwork with kitchen and event staff to ensure high-quality hospitality.

The role is part-time with a pay rate of $12.00–$16.00 per hour and tip eligibility. Benefits include a 401(k) plan with matching. Position open until October 23, 2026, at Waterloo Convention Center, a hub for community events.

Qualifications

• 6 months in a fast-paced, high-volume food service environment preferred.
• High School Diploma, GED, or related food service experience.
• Must acquire/maintain Food Handlers Card and Alcohol Awareness Certification. Compliance trainings required.
• Ability to work in a team-oriented, fast-paced, event-driven environment.
• Clear, respectful communication with colleagues and guests.

Responsibilities

• Maintain knowledge of menu and any specials.
• Provide quick, attentive, professional service to banquet guests.
• Ensure items are served at proper temperature and promptly.
• Ensure neat presentation with no spills.
• Pre-bus and bus tables during peak periods.
• Remain available during peak periods and events.
• Stock beverage stations as needed (ice, glassware, etc.).
• Respond promptly to customer desires and requests.
• Maintain professional, clean appearance.
• Coordinate with wait staff, bartenders, kitchen and supervisors for a smooth dining experience.
• Know bar offerings to answer guest questions.

Position Summary

A Server plays a critical role in delivering exceptional guest experiences by providing professional and efficient food and beverage service during events. Their primary function is to ensure that all guests feel welcomed and attended to, following event specifications and service standards. From the setup of banquet spaces to the seamless execution of meal service, they maintain an acute focus on detail and hospitality. Servers work collaboratively with kitchen and event staff to ensure the timely delivery of courses, adapt to guest needs in real time, and uphold the ambiance and quality of the event. Beyond serving, Servers contribute to the overall success of events by maintaining cleanliness and organization throughout the service. They reset spaces for subsequent events and ensure that all equipment is cleaned and stored appropriately. Whether it's a formal gala, a corporate event, or a wedding reception, this applies. Servers are integral in creating a positive impression of the venue and event host, embodying professionalism, efficiency, and a guest-focused attitude.

This role pays an hourly rate of $12.00-$16.00 and is tip eligible.

Responsibilities

• Maintains knowledge of the menu and any special items being offered.
• Provides quick, attentive, friendly, and professional service to banquet guests and is able to communicate clearly with all customers.
• Ensures that food items are served at the proper temperature and immediately upon availability from the kitchen, as ordered by the customer.
• Ensures neat presentation of all ordered items, with no spill-over.
• Pre-bus tables and fully bus tables when necessary during peak periods.
• Maintains availability to work during many peak periods.
• Stocks beverage station(s) when necessary (ice, juices, glassware, sugar packets, etc).
• Maintains high responsiveness to customer desires and requests.
• Maintains a professional and clean appearance.
• Communicates with wait staff, bus persons, bartenders, supervisors, and kitchen staff to improve communication and coordination so that patrons may be impressed by their dining experience.
• Builds and maintains knowledge regarding bar offerings so that patron questions may be accurately answered.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 6 months working in a fast-paced, high-volume food service environment is preferred.
• Must have a High School Diploma, G.E.D. or related food service job experience.
• Must acquire and maintain a Food Handlers Card, Alcohol Awareness Certification, and other required compliance trainings.
• Ability to work in a team-oriented, fast-paced, event-driven environment.
• Ability to communicate with employees, co-workers, management staff, and guests in a clear, business-like, and respectful manner that focuses on generating a positive, enthusiastic, and cooperative work environment.
