Job summary

The State of South Carolina is seeking a supervisor to administer the Broad River complex main gate and oversee security operations for the BRC and related facilities. You will manage access control, verify visitors, and ensure only authorized personnel enter the premises.

You will evaluate officers, provide guidance on duty standards, and ensure training and certifications are up to date. Completion of SC Department of Corrections basic training is required within eight weeks of hire.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and relevant experience required.
• Bachelor's degree may substitute for required experience.
• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and complete basic supervisory course within six months.
• Must successfully complete eight weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Administer operation of the Broad River complex main gate.
• Ensure control and security of buildings, facilities and equipment, including access/egress to the BRC and grounds.
• Supervise and verify scheduled visitors and ensure only authorized personnel enter.
• Evaluate officers' duty performance and provide instruction and counseling on standards.
• Maintain training and certification requirements for subordinates and arrange additional training as needed.

Job description

• Responsible for administering the operation of the Broad River complex main gate.
• Ensure control and security of the SC Department of Corrections Broad River complex (BRC)/area buildings/ facilities and equipment, to include: access and egress from the BRC, Education Division (formerly known as the Director's House) and grounds surrounding institutions and/or divisions of SC Department of Corrections (SCDC).
• Supervise and verify the accuracy of scheduled visitors and functions to ensure only authorized personnel are permitted entry.
• Evaluate officers' duty performance; instruct & counsel officers in required duty performance standards.
• Ensure subordinates maintain all training and certification requirements and receive additional training, to include OJT as needed or required.

Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:

A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelor's degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.

SCDC Minimum Requirements:

• A high school diploma and eighteen (18) months experience in correctional, security, military, or police work.
• A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for 1/2 of required experience.
• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
