Job summary

South Carolina Department of Corrections seeks a security supervisor for the Broad River Complex. You will oversee security operations, assign duties to officers, supervise visitor control, and ensure compliance with policies.

Required are a high school diploma with relevant experience, 18 months in security fields, and completion of SCDC Basic Training plus supervisory coursework within six months. A related bachelor's degree may substitute for part of the experience.

Responsibilities

• Conducts sanitation, safety, and security inspections and reports deficiencies.
• Verifies scheduled visitors and ensures only authorized personnel enter.
• Provides escorts for emergency personnel and monitors inmate movement.
• Evaluates officer performance and counsels on standards.
• Ensures subordinates maintain required training and certifications and arranges additional training as needed.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Division Director of Security or designee.

Job description

• Under direct supervision, provides control of pedestrian and vehicle traffic entering or exiting the Broad River Complex.
• Provides security and monitors areas within the complex and adjacent to institutional/divisional grounds in accordance with current policies and procedures.
• Assign duties to subordinate officers and monitors security and safety within the complex, buildings, grounds, and vehicles.
• Conducts sanitation, safety, and security inspections and corrects or reports deficiencies.
• Supervises and verifies scheduled visitors and functions to ensure only authorized personnel are permitted entry.
• Ensures escorts are provided for emergency personnel and special groups or functions and monitors inmate movement.
• Evaluates officer’s performance and instructs and counsels officers on required performance standards.
• Ensure subordinates maintain required training and certifications and receive additional training as needed.
• Performs all other duties as assigned by the Division Director of Security or designee.

Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements

A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelor’s degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.

SCDC Minimum Requirements:

• A high school diploma and eighteen (18) months experience in correctional, security, military, or police work.
• A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for 1/2 of required experience.
• Must be certified by the SCDC training academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
