The South Carolina Department of Corrections is seeking qualified security personnel to supervise and coordinate security operations at the Broad River Complex. The role requires ensuring authorized access, directing subordinates, and enforcing safety and sanitation standards.
Successful candidates will complete an eight-week SCDC Basic Training program on hire, hold a high school diploma (or higher), and may substitute a bachelor’s degree for part of the experience.
Under direct supervision, provides control of pedestrian and vehicle traffic entering or exiting the Broad River Complex.
Provides security and monitors areas within the complex and adjacent to institutional/divisional grounds in accordance with current policies and procedures.
Assign duties to subordinate officers and monitors security and safety within the complex, buildings, grounds, and vehicles.
Conducts sanitation, safety, and security inspections and corrects or reports deficiencies.
Supervises and verifies scheduled visitors and functions to ensure only authorized personnel are permitted entry.
Ensures escorts are provided for emergency personnel and special groups or functions and monitors inmate movement.
Evaluates officer's performance and instructs and counsels officers on required performance standards.
Ensure subordinates maintain required training and certifications and receive additional training as needed.
Performs all other duties as assigned by the Division Director of Security or designee.
Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.
A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelor's degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.
A high school diploma and eighteen (18) months experience in correctional, security, military, or police work.
A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for 1/2 of required experience.
Must be certified by the SCDC training academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
