Job summary

Qualifications

  • Experience budgeting, procurement documents, and vendor contracts preferred but not required.
  • Experience procuring police vehicles and overseeing emergency equipment installation preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of department policies and safety standards is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee Officers and support staff assigned to the Fleet Services Unit.
  • Manage acquisition, maintenance, repair, and decommissioning of all department vehicles to ensure readiness.
  • Oversee vehicle procurement, including specifications, bid evaluations, and vendor coordination.
  • Ensure maintenance scheduling and recordkeeping for preventive and corrective maintenance.
  • Monitor fleet inventory levels across vehicle types and ensure equitable distribution.
  • Supervise installation and maintenance of emergency equipment, markings, and onboard technology.
  • Develop and implement fleet-related policies and safety standards aligned with directives.
  • Review and approve maintenance work orders, vehicle assignments, and expenditures for cost-efficiency.
  • Oversee fleet replacement planning and long-term acquisition strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and applicable laws.
  • Coordinate emergency vehicle support during large-scale incidents or mobilizations.
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Commanding Officer.

Summary

The MTA Police Department is seeking qualified members of the department who are interested in being assigned to the Fleet Services Unit as a Sergeant.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities of the Fleet Services Unit Sergeant include, but are not limited to:

  • Oversee Officers, and support staff assigned to the Fleet Services Unit.
  • Manage the acquisition, maintenance, repair, and decommissioning of all department vehicles, ensuring operational readiness and compliance with departmental policies.
  • Oversee vehicle procurement processes, including development of technical specifications, bid evaluations, and coordination with vendors.
  • Ensure proper maintenance scheduling and recordkeeping for preventive and corrective vehicle maintenance.
  • Monitor fleet inventory levels, including marked, unmarked, specialty, and support vehicles, ensuring equitable distribution among commands and units.
  • Supervise the installation and maintenance of emergency equipment, vehicle markings, and technology (e.g., radios, mobile data terminals, cameras).
  • Develop and implement fleet-related policies, procedures, and safety standards in alignment with department directives.
  • Review and approve maintenance work orders, vehicle assignments, and expenditures to ensure accountability and cost-efficiency.
  • Oversee fleet replacement planning and develop long-term vehicle acquisition strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, safety standards, and applicable local, state, and federal vehicle laws.
  • Coordinate emergency vehicle support and recovery operations during large-scale incidents or department-wide mobilizations.
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Commanding Officer of Administrative Services Bureau.
Qualifications
  • Currently hold the rank of Sergeant.
  • Knowledge and proficiency with the department’s Traffic and Criminal Software (TraCS) preferred.
  • Knowledge and proficiency with the department’s Motorola License Plate Reader Software preferred.
  • Experience in the process of procuring police vehicles preferred but not required.
  • Experience overseeing the installation and maintenance of emergency equipment on police vehicles preferred but not required.
  • Experience overseeing the acquisition, maintenance, repair, and decommissioning of police department vehicles preferred but not required.
  • Possess an understanding of automotive maintenance, fleet operations, and vehicle lifecycle management, including preventive maintenance scheduling and warranty management.
  • Experience preparing and monitoring budgets, procurement documents, and vendor contracts preferred but not required.
Be willing to commit to three (3) years of service with the Fleet Services Unit.
  • Experience managing Fleet Services Unit grants is preferred but not required.
