Job description

Job Title: Correctional Supervisor

Under the general supervision of the Shift Lieutenant,

1. Responsible for the overall supervision of subordinate security personnel assigned to the unit, and for the custody and control of all inmates in the housing units.
2. Makes routine inspections of living areas to ensure compliance with security, safety, and sanitation standards.
3. Conducts investigations of alleged misconduct by inmates and security staff within the area of responsibility.
4. Assists in conducting formal and informal inmate counts.
5. Supervises the job performance, conduct, and appearance of security personnel; prepares employee evaluations.
6. Counsels staff, recommends disciplinary actions, and trains subordinates to meet performance standards.
7. Prepares reports as required.
8. Performs duties of Shift Lieutenant when necessary.

Must successfully complete an eight (8) week SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Minimum Requirements

State of South Carolina: A high school diploma and relevant experience. A bachelor's degree in a related field may substitute for the required experience.

SCDC Minimum Requirements:

• At least 18 months of experience in correctional, security, military, or police work.
• A degree in criminal justice or a related field may substitute for half of the required experience.
• Must be certified by the SCDC training academy and complete the basic supervisory course within six months of employment.
