Job summary

Management & Training Corporation is seeking a Sergeant at the East Texas Treatment Facility in Henderson, Texas. You will lead custody operations, supervise staff, and ensure safety and discipline in alignment with MTC and TDCJ directives.

The role requires leadership, vigilance, and the ability to manage inmate interactions, conduct searches, and coordinate transportation while maintaining detailed records and compliance with policy.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent or GED.
  • Two years full-time, wage-earning correctional custody or law enforcement experience.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record required.

Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise designated employees.
  • Responsible for the custody and discipline of Inmates in the facility in compliance with MTC and TDCJ directives.
  • Supervise, protect, instruct, train, counsel and evaluate assigned employees.
  • Provide for the care, custody and adherence to rules and regulations of Inmates assigned to specific work area.
  • Supervise and provide custody and security of Inmates including observation of Inmates and Inmates assigned to work duty.
  • Read, review and apply information from Inmate records related to health, safety and security.
  • Supervise the preparation and maintenance of records, forms and reports.

Pay: $23 per hour

Work schedule:Full-time, rotational shift schedule: 12hrs (6a-630p or 6p-630am)

Lead with purpose and make a difference! We're seeking a dedicated Sergeant to join our team at the East Texas Treatment Facility in Henderson, Texas. Bring your leadership skills, commitment to safety, and drive for excellence to a role that truly matters.

What you'll do:Directly supervise designated employees. Responsible for the custody and discipline of Inmates in the facility in compliance with Management & Training Corporation (MTC) and Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) directives

Essential Functions:

  1. Supervise, protect, instruct, train, counsel and evaluate assignedemployees.
  2. Provide for the care, custody and adherence to rules and regulations of Inmates assigned to specific workarea.
  3. Supervise and provide custody and security of Inmates including observation of Inmates and Inmates assigned to work duty which includes long periods of sitting andstanding.
  4. Supervise and direct searches for contraband including “pat” and “strip” searches, by squatting and bending to perform suchfunctions.
  5. Transfer and transport Inmates by walking or riding in vehicles. Restrain and secureassaultive Inmates asneeded.
  6. Read, review and properly apply information found in Inmate records which is related to the Inmates’ health and safety and to the security of the facility. Provide appropriate information to otherpersonnel.
  7. Supervise the preparation and maintenance of records, forms andreports.
  8. Perform specific duties if assigned to the following areas: housing unit, special housing area, education, community service andintake.
  9. Respond to emergencies to search for Inmates, administer first aid at the emergency site, carry an injured or unconscious Inmate, and perform use of force procedures, including the use of chemical agents to controlInmates.
  10. Comply with policies, procedures, rules andregulations.
  11. It is expected the incumbent will work overtime when directed to doso.
  12. Regular and predictable attendance isrequired.
  13. Promote the development of positive social skills through modeling appropriate behaviors and intervening when inappropriate behaviors are observed; provide regular feedback to staffregarding social skills procedures and interventiontechniques.
  14. Maintain accountability of staff, Inmates and property; adhere to safetypractices.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent or GED.
  • Two (2)years full-time, wage-earning correctional custody or law enforcement experience.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record required, unless waived by management.

Post Hire Requirement:

Must successfully complete annual in-service training requirements to include physical agility testing and pass an annual background check, which must be approved by TDCJ.
