Job description

SEO Manager — Punch List Digital

Build the system, not just the rankings

Punch List Digital builds websites, runs SEO, and manages paid search for HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and drain and sewer contractors. Our job is simple to say and hard to do: keep their technicians busy. Every site we build follows one standard. Each page answers one question, for one service, in one city, so it can rank in Google, get cited by AI assistants, and serve as the landing page for a paid ad. We need someone to own that standard and make it better across every site we run, all at once. If you would rather design the system than work the queue, read on.

What you will own
  • The architecture. Site structure, URLs, technical SEO, and structured data for every client website, plus the standard all new builds follow. You are the person the company asks when it needs the right answer.
  • Changes that scale. You set the roadmap for template-level improvements and work with Web Development to test and roll them out across the portfolio, then measure what moved.
  • The playbook. Documented processes for onboarding, launches, migrations, monthly content, and reporting, so every client gets the same quality no matter who does the work. Where work can be templated or automated with AI-assisted tools, you make it so, with human review on everything that ships.
  • Launches and migrations. URL mapping, redirects, and post-launch checks so rankings carry over.
  • AI search. Building pages that Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini can read and cite, and measuring whether they do.
  • Measurement. GA4, Tag Manager, Search Console, and call tracking wired so every call and form lead ties back to the page that produced it.
  • A small, sharp team. You lead a compact group of SEO specialists. You set clear goals, review work against a high bar, and coach directly. You decide what gets handed off and when.
  • Plain answers for clients. A short monthly read on what we did, what we found, and what changes next, plus a seat on client reviews and prospect audits as the SEO expert.
How you will be measured

No vague goals. You will have a scorecard from day one: organic leads and booked jobs, local pack and top-three ranking share, AI citation share, technical health and Core Web Vitals, launch and migration retention, on-time delivery, and client retention.

This role fits you if
  • You like independence and are at your best when you are trusted to own an outcome and choose the route.
  • You think in systems. When something breaks on one site, your first question is how to fix it on all of them.
  • You move fast, but your decisions are thought through, and you can show the data behind them.
  • You hold yourself to a high standard and expect the same from the work that reaches clients.
  • You get restless when nothing is changing. Search changes every month here, and so will your work.
  • You would rather say it straight than dress it up. Clients and teammates get the facts and a recommendation.
What you bring
  • 5+ years of hands-on SEO, including agency work across many clients at once
  • 2+ years leading or managing SEO practitioners
  • Deep technical SEO: architecture, migrations, redirects, Core Web Vitals, structured data, internal linking, crawl and index management
  • Local SEO for multi-location or service-area businesses, including Google Business Profile, citations, and reviews
  • A track record of building processes and rolling out improvements across many sites at once
  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and WordPress
  • Hands-on with SEMrush or Ahrefs, Screaming Frog, Search Console, GA4, Tag Manager, and testing visibility in AI search

A plus: home services SEO and an understanding of contractor lead economics (calls, booked jobs, average ticket), experience sharing landing pages and attribution with paid search, and AI-assisted SEO workflows.

What we offer
  • Real authority over the standard and the roadmap, and the room to change them
  • A steady stream of new problems: algorithm updates, AI search, new markets, new builds
  • Competitive Salary
  • Benefits and 401k
