Within the systems engineering organization, the system safety team employs specialized knowledge and skills in applying scientific and engineering principles, criteria, and techniques to identify hazards, their causes, and potential mitigations to reduce or eliminate the severity or probability of these hazards. This effort seeks to achieve an acceptable level of risk for Northrop Grumman, the program, and customer, within the constraints of operational effectiveness and suitability, time, and cost, throughout all phases of the system life cycle.

The system safety team executes to a vast scope of work, interacting with a broad range of stakeholders internally and externally. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to work all aspects of the system safety engineering discipline. This will include analyzing and recommending design features to meet safety criteria in system design to control or eliminate hazards, active participation in design of products/systems, support equipment and facilities.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) with 8 years’ experience; 6 years’ experience with a Master’s; 4 years’ with PhD.
  • Must be a US Citizen with an active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of application with an investigation completed within the last 6 years.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time.
  • Systems Safety Experience.
  • 2 years' experience with systems engineering including working knowledge of requirements, verification and validation (V&V).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ICBM weapon system experience (Minuteman III or similar).
  • Experience in reviewing technical schematics, drawings, plans and specifications on the system.
