Northrop Grumman Defense Systems seeks a Principal/Senior Principal Systems Engineer for the Sentinel program in Roy, UT. You will guide SE across the full lifecycle, from use-case development to verification, collaborating with the Digital Thread IPTs and test teams to deliver rigorous artifacts.

The role requires DoD security clearances, extensive MBSE experience, and strong communication skills to interact with contractors and customers. Relocation and travel may be involved.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree with 5+ years of related experience; Master’s 8y, PhD 4y for senior roles.
• Active DoD Secret clearance; ability to obtain SAP clearance.
• Ability to obtain DoD Top Secret clearance.
• 2+ years in complex information systems and architecture.
• 2+ years in agile or incremental CI/CD environments.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Digital Thread IPTs to produce rigorous SE artifacts.
• Define use-case development, requirements allocation and traceability.
• Work with test teams for system checkout and validation.
• Gather formal and informal user feedback through testing.
• Develop and mature Digital Thread System design within the ecosystem.
• Ensure requirements are reflected in the system model.
• Develop system architecture using Cameo EA (behavioral, structural).
• Contribute to requirements management and MBSE artifacts.
• Develop modeling procedures for tool integration and team collaboration.

Overview

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer / Senior Principal Systems Engineer for the Sentinel program in Roy, UT. The role supports the Digital Thread System team across the full systems‑engineering life cycle, from use‑case development through verification.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

• Collaborate closely with the Digital Thread Integrated Product Team and system engineers for other Digital Ecosystem IPTs to produce rigorous systems‑engineering and design artifacts.
• Define use‑case development, requirements definition, allocation, traceability, functional decomposition, interface definition, and verification.
• Work with test teams to ensure successful checkout and verification of the system.
• Perform user acceptance testing and other engagements to gather informal and formal user feedback.
• Help develop and mature the Digital Thread System design as part of the Digital Ecosystem.
• Ensure the system’s requirements are properly represented in the model.
• Develop the systems architecture using Cameo Enterprise Architecture (behavioral, structural, analytical).
• Contribute to system requirements development, management, and analysis.
• Develop unifying modeling techniques, procedures, and processes for model development, tool integration, and team collaboration.

Basic Qualifications

• Principal Systems Engineer: Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline, 5 years related experience, 3 years with Master’s, 1 year with PhD.
• Senior Principal Systems Engineer: Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline, 8 years related experience, 6 years with Master’s, 4 years with PhD.
• Active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance at time of application, current and within scope, with an investigation date within the last 6 years.
• Ability to obtain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance.
• Ability to obtain U.S. Government DoD Top Secret security clearance.
• 2+ years in complex information systems.
• 2+ years developing and executing SE process in a DoD Technology TMRR or EMD phase.
• 2+ years in large/complex system development supporting or leading major program events such as SRR, SFR, PDR, CDR, TRR, SVR, FCA, PRR, PCA.
• 2+ years in agile or other incremental/continuous integration and delivery effort.
• 2+ years creating, updating, and maintaining requirements specifications in DOORS.
• 2+ years creating, updating, and maintaining MBSE products.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiar with Teamcenter/CPLM, Primavera, ARM, Gitlab, COBRA, Nexus, SharePoint.
• ICBM Experience (MMIII or Sentinel).
• Experience with Agile, JIRA, Confluence.
• Experience with Integrated Functional Capability (IFC) process.
• Experience resolving issues and providing technical support.
• Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point.
• 3+ years writing requirements and/or verification plans.
• Capable of working with minimal direction and in team environments.
• Strong oral and written communication skills, including high‑value customer presentations.
• Strong understanding of complex engineering systems, including standards, configuration management, material review board, process control, tooling, facilities, software, etc.
• Experience with defining and building cyber‑secure information systems.
• Experience developing systems in a joint collaborative environment between contractor and customer.
• Experience defining digital engineering or digital ecosystem capabilities.
• Experience with hybrid and cloud‑based information system.

Salary and Work Schedule

Primary Level Salary Range: $98,400.00 – $147,600.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $122,800.00 – $184,200.00

The position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80 (nine‑hour days Monday through Thursday, every other Friday off).
