Job summary

Northrop Grumman is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design and develop aerospace/mechanical systems for a major defense program. You will create CAD models using Siemens NX, perform analyses, and support the product lifecycle from design through testing.

The role requires a STEM degree with 2+ years of related experience, and the ability to obtain a U.S. Secret clearance. A strong knowledge of GD&T and manufacturing processes is essential.

Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in a STEM field with 2+ years of related experience.
  • Master’s degree with 1+ year of related experience is acceptable for higher-level roles.
  • Experience with CAD modeling (Siemens NX preferred).
  • Familiarity with GD&T, materials selection, and manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Secret clearance.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Primary role is to serve as a mechanical designer for mechanical systems (mechanisms) design on a major Northrop Grumman Defense Systems program
  • Research, plan, design, and develop mechanical/aerospace products for aircraft, spacecraft, launch vehicles, missiles, ground vehicles and associated ground and test equipment
  • Develop CAD models and 3D model based drawings using Siemens NX and Team Center
  • Verify specifications and designs through modeling and simulation, test data processing, and performance analysis
  • Support all phases of the systems lifecycle including design, drawings, fabrication, test, installation, operation and maintenance
  • Design of components/systems, and preliminary/sizing analysis for both stress and dynamic analysis of aerospace structures
  • Preparation and presentation of reports, briefings, design documents (drawings and specifications) and interface with customers
Basic Qualifications

This position may be filled at a Mechanical Engineer level or at a Principal Mechanical Engineer level

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with 2 years of related experience; or a master’s degree with 1 year of related experience (Principal level requires 5 years with a bachelor's; or 3 years with a master's)
  • Must be a US Citizen with an active U.S. Government Secret Security Clearance, at time of application, current and within scope, with an investigation date within the last 6 years
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs
  • Requires a minimum 2 years of experience with CAD modeling (Siemens NX preferred)
  • Requires a minimum 2 years of experience in mechanical engineering that includes a background in mechanical systems (mechanisms preferred)
  • Requires experience with common engineering standards (ISO, ASME, Mil Spec, NAS, etc.)
  • Requires experience with GD&T, materials selection, and manufacturing processes
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Team Center (CPLM) and the Product Definition Package (PDP) release process
  • Experience with the ASME Y14.X suite of engineering drawing standards
  • Experience with requirements management and model-based systems engineering (MBSE) principles
  • Experience with ICBMs or launch equipment systems
  • Experience performing dynamic and static analysis (NX Motion or ANSYS preferred)
  • Proficiency in DOORS, CAMEO, Jira and Confluence
  • Ability to operate independently with minimal supervision, function in a dynamic environment, and be flexible to changing direction
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills when conveying technical content

This position’s standard work schedule is 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.

Primary Level Salary Range: $72,100.00 - $108,100.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $89,400.00 - $134,200.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
