Job summary

WindBorne Systems is hiring a Sensor Data Engineer to own the software turning raw measurements from a global balloon constellation into weather data. You will manage a pipeline processing temperature, humidity, pressure, position, and wind data across hundreds of balloons with a focus on data quality.

The role requires strong Python and data-analysis skills, knowledge of databases and Linux systems, and the ability to work across hardware and software teams.

Qualifications

• Must have strong intuition for sensors, physics or statistics.
• Able to communicate clearly about complex technical systems.
• Strong Python and data-analysis skills; willing to learn databases, Linux systems and production services.
• High agency; comfortable owning systems end-to-end with minimal oversight.

Responsibilities

• Own software that turns raw balloon measurements into weather observations in customer-facing databases.
• Develop sensor processing and quality-control algorithms for temperature, pressure, humidity, wind, etc.
• Investigate pipeline failures, data loss and quality issues.
• Improve architecture and scalability of sensor-processing systems as the constellation grows.
