Job summary

WindBorne Systems in Redwood Shores, CA is seeking a Sensor Data Engineer to own the software turning raw balloon measurements into weather data. You will manage a data pipeline processing temperature, humidity, pressure, position, and wind data from hundreds of balloons worldwide.

Ideal candidates think like scientists, collaborate across hardware and software teams, and are eager to learn production systems while ensuring data quality and reliability in a fast-paced R&D environment.

Qualifications

• Strong intuition for sensors, physics, and/or statistics and ability to reason from first principles.
• Ability to clearly explain complex technical systems across hardware and software teams.
• Proficient in Python and data analysis; willing to learn databases, Linux systems, and 24/7 data pipelines.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain production software that converts balloon measurements into weather observations.
• Implement sensor processing and quality control algorithms for temperature, pressure, humidity, wind, etc.
• Investigate pipeline failures, data loss, and quality issues.
• Improve architecture and scalability of sensor-processing systems as the constellation grows.
