Job summary

Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine is seeking individuals to participate as Sensitive Patient Exam Curriculum Participants (SPEC) to portray patients in medical simulations. You will provide feedback, participate in standardized exams, and wear a hospital gown during examinations while being observed.

Must be willing to participate in sensitive exams (breast, GYN, or prostate) and work with male and female participants.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of patient privacy regulations (HIPAA) and student privacy (FERPA).
• Strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication abilities.
• Willingness to work flexible hours and support department needs.
• Ability to provide constructive feedback and mentor entry-level SPECs.
• Demonstrates professionalism and teamwork in a clinical education setting.

Responsibilities

• Provide informative and accurate feedback to students while acting as a patient during sensitive physical examinations.
• Interact with medical students in a standardized manner during simulated patient history and examinations.
• Permit examinations wearing a hospital gown while observed.
• Accurately remember encounters for rating student behaviors.
• Provide training and mentorship of entry-level SPECs.
• Maintain confidentiality of cases, student behaviors, and evaluations.
• Be able to accept other duties as assigned for department needs.
