Job Overview

We are seeking a Senior z/VM and z/Linux System Administrator to manage and optimize IBM z/VM and Linux environments on IBM Z mainframes. This role involves system installation, configuration, maintenance, and support, ensuring high performance, security, and availability. You will also contribute to planning and implementing upgrades and new technologies.

Responsibilities

1. Install, test, implement, maintain, and support z/VM OS, subsystems, and related infrastructure.
2. Provision virtual machines, including Linux images (Red Hat, SUSE, Ubuntu).
3. Configure network interfaces and VSWITCH setups.
4. Maintain and support system updates, vendor-supplied maintenance, and firmware.
5. Manage tools like Velocity zVPS and IBM Performance Toolkit.
6. Support backup, restore, and directory management tools.
7. Ensure interoperability of IBM and ISV products.
8. Perform problem analysis and work with IBM support.
9. Test system compatibility and participate in vendor support programs.
10. Implement new hardware and software technologies.
11. Develop documentation and share knowledge with peers.
12. Support disaster recovery and business continuity initiatives.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience with z/VM Hypervisor, CP, CMS, SFS, REXX, SS, networking (VSWITCH, VTAM, TCP/IP), z/OS guest support, and Linux on Z.
• Strong support background and knowledge of IBM software procedures.
• Proficiency in installation, configuration, and maintenance of IBM products.
• Experience with IBM utilities; BMC utilities are a plus.
• Problem-solving skills, ability to work independently, and manage multiple tasks.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Skills

• Knowledge of z/OS systems administration (USS, TSO, ISPF, SDSF, JES2/JES3, JCL, SMF, REXX, SMPE).
• Experience with FDRPASVM, Upstream products, RACF on z/VM, and IBM Z HMC.
