Senior Writer (Story and Franchise Development / SFD)

Blizzard Entertainment is looking for a talented and experienced individual to join the Creative Development team as a Senior Writer, in a temporary position. Duties may include screenwriting for animated content; dialogue and narrative writing for games; writing comics and short fiction; and general collaborative story development across Blizzard Entertainment’s intellectual properties. The ideal candidate will have proven success as an animation writer and/or screenwriter, outstanding people skills, experience in a writers' room setting, and a passion for telling great stories in various media.

This role is anticipated to be a hybrid work position, with some work on-site and some work-from-home. The potential home studio for this role is Irvine, CA. However, we understand each person’s circumstances may be unique and will work with you to explore other possible options, including remote work arrangements.

This is a 3-month temporary position.

What You Bring to the Table

  1. Assume a prominent role in the development of Blizzard Entertainment's intellectual properties, focused on animated content and game writing.
  2. Contribute to IP development for all of Blizzard Entertainment's franchises, including in-game cinematics and narrative design work.
  3. Work with internal development teams to evolve Blizzard Entertainment's intellectual properties and expand them in various media types.
  4. Work closely with directors, creative directors, editors, storyboard artists, marketing and other stakeholders to develop epic entertainment experiences.

Experience

  • 5+ years of experience as a screenwriter or story editor, preferably delivering content for an established franchise(s).
  • Successfully produced writing work, preferably in genre content.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Thorough knowledge of the story development process.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to thrive under deadlines.
  • Awareness of successful intellectual properties in today's popular culture.
  • Ability to work and thrive in a team environment across production stages.
  • Ability to produce written work without constant supervision.
  • Ability to process feedback comfortably, and pivot without attachment.

In the U.S., the standard base pay range for this role is $72,720.00 - $134,460.00 Annual. These values reflect the expected base pay range of new hires across all U.S. locations. Ultimately, your specific range and offer will be based on several factors, including relevant experience, performance, and work location. Your Talent Professional can share this role’s range details for your local geography during the hiring process. In addition to a competitive base pay, employees in this role may be eligible for incentive compensation. Incentive compensation is not guaranteed. While we strive to provide competitive offers to successful candidates, new hire compensation is negotiable.
