Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
• Active membership in good standing with the California State Bar.
• Experience practicing workers' compensation defense in California.
• Strong understanding of California Labor Code and WCAB procedures.
• Excellent written, verbal, and analytical skills.
• Ability to independently manage a litigation caseload.
• Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
• Proficiency with legal research platforms and case management software.
• Spanish language proficiency.
• Experience working in a remote legal environment.

Responsibilities

• Manage a workers' compensation defense caseload from assignment through resolution.
• Represent employers, insurance carriers, and self-insured clients before the California Workers' Compensation Appeals Board (WCAB).
• Conduct depositions of applicants, physicians, expert witnesses, and other parties.
• Prepare and argue motions, petitions, and trials.
• Attend hearings, conferences, mediations, and settlement negotiations.
• Analyze medical records, expert reports, and legal documentation.
• Develop litigation strategies and provide risk assessments to clients.
• Maintain consistent communication with clients, claims professionals, and opposing counsel.
• Draft pleadings, legal correspondence, discovery, and settlement documents.
• Stay current on California workers' compensation laws, regulations, and case law developments.
