This position within Business Systems is responsible for the domain design, configuration, and continuous optimization of Workday as the Foundation's enterprise HRIS platform, spanning HCM, Recruitment, Onboarding, Time Tracking, job classifications, benefits administration, data integrations (I/O), reporting, and payroll. This position works in close partnership with the Foundation's HRIS team, which provides frontline user education and mid-level functional support. This position serves as the escalation point for complex issues involving major loss of functionality, and as a cross-functional mentor and subject matter expert to the HRIS team, building its capability over time through knowledge transfer. Within the HRIS domain, this position is accountable for platform-level responsibilities: security administration, worktags, data management, vendor tenant access, escalated testing, and vendor and tenant engagement. It partners with Business Systems counterparts on cross-domain items such as worktags. The Foundation's Workday Platform Architect holds full, platform-wide system oversight across HCM and Finance; this position escalates cross-domain or platform-wide architecture decisions to that role rather than carrying them directly. Under general direction, this position serves as a subject matter expert and internal consultant, exercising independent judgment and discretion to evaluate platform capabilities, determine appropriate technical approaches, and advise HRIS and Business Systems leadership on system design, risk, and roadmap decisions. This position does not supervise staff, but it carries significant cross-functional influence and depends on strong consensus-building skills to align HRIS, IT, and Business Systems stakeholders around shared solutions. Because Workday HRIS touches sensitive employee, compensation, and payroll data across the entire organization, this person must be skilled at building alignment across teams with competing priorities and earning trust without formal authority over the teams whose processes the platform supports.
Deep, hands‑on expertise in Workday HCM (or a comparable top‑tier enterprise HRIS/HCM platform), including recruitment, onboarding, job classifications and position management, benefits administration, reporting, and payroll.
Leads feature updates and functionality testing, provides troubleshooting and escalation support to the Payroll and Finance teams. Serves as a cross‑functional mentor and subject matter expert to HRIS support staff, advising on Workday best practices and troubleshooting techniques, supporting resolution of escalated issues, and leading knowledge transfer that builds and maintains internal subject matter expertise, reducing the volume of escalations over time.
Builds and maintains complex integrations (e.g., Workday Studio, EIBs, core connectors) within the HCM domain, built to the integration and security standards set by the Workday Platform Architect, supporting HR, benefits, and payroll data flows.
Ability to translate complex technical concepts for HRIS and Payroll support staff and non‑technical stakeholders. A consensus‑building advisor able to work across HR, IT, and Business Systems, aligning stakeholders with competing priorities and earning trust without direct authority.
