Job summary

Nexcess is hiring several Senior Software Engineers to advance our managed WordPress hosting platform and WordPress products on top of it. You’ll write PHP, optimize performance, and ensure upgrade-safe code for a large installed base.

We seek engineers comfortable across server and PHP configurations, with a focus on scalable, reliable deployments. This permanently remote role requires at least four hours of daily overlap with US Eastern time (9:00 AM–1:00 PM ET) to pair and review with the

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional PHP experience with production software.
• 3+ years WordPress experience, with upgrade-safe coding for large base.
• Strong Linux knowledge and shell scripting ability.
• Experience with PHP‑FPM, caching, and performance tuning.
• Proficient in automated testing and CI/CD practices.

Responsibilities

• Own substantial features end to end: design, implement, test, roll out.
• Diagnose performance issues across query, cache, and PHP layers.
• Write robust PHP and contribute to architecture improvements.
• Mentor engineers and participate in code reviews.
• Improve tooling, pipelines, and automation for the team.
