About the Role

We’re seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Windows Systems Engineer to join our world-class Engineering team. This role requires deep technical expertise and ownership of complex infrastructure, cloud, and security systems. You’ll take the lead on architecture, deployment, hardening, and management of Microsoft-based environments for Performive clients, ensuring high availability, security, and performance.

This role is ideal for a seasoned engineer with proven experience supporting enterprise-level Microsoft infrastructure, hybrid Active Directory and Azure environments, and advanced Office 365 administration, including security configurations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary escalation point (Level 3) for complex infrastructure issues, projects, and systems design across Windows and Microsoft platforms.
  • Architect, implement, and maintain hybrid cloud environments integrating on-prem Active Directory with Azure AD, including Conditional Access, Identity Protection, and AAD Connect.
  • Administer and secure Microsoft 365 environments, including Defender for 365, DLP policies, MFA, Exchange Online Protection (EOP), and compliance center configurations.
  • Build, deploy, and maintain virtual machines in Hyper-V, VMware, or vCloud Director environments.
  • Design and maintain backup and disaster recovery solutions with Veeam, Zerto, or equivalent.
  • Implement and manage automated monitoring and alerting systems (e.g., Zabbix, RMM, SIEM) to ensure 24/7 availability and performance of critical systems.
  • Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and remediation efforts for production-impacting events.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with project teams, support staff, vendors, and customers to deliver secure and reliable infrastructure solutions.
  • Document system configurations, standard operating procedures, and contribute to a shared knowledge base.

What You Bring

  • 5+ years of hands-on engineering experience supporting Microsoft environments in a fast-paced MSP or enterprise setting.
  • Expertise with:
    • Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, DFS, NTFS, and clustering technologies.
    • Azure AD (Entra ID), Intune, Azure Security Center, and Azure-native role-based access controls.
    • Advanced Office 365 administration including Exchange Online, OneDrive, SharePoint, and Teams.
    • Office 365 security and compliance features such as Defender for Endpoint/Email, M365 Security Center, DLP, Safe Links, Safe Attachments, and audit logging.
    • Scripting and automation using PowerShell.
    • Backup and recovery solutions like Veeam or Zerto.
    • Windows system patching and vulnerability remediation.
    • ITSM platforms (e.g., ConnectWise) for ticketing, asset management, and reporting.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with an ability to own and resolve complex issues independently.
  • Clear and professional communication skills with the ability to document and explain technical procedures clearly.
  • A customer-first mindset with a passion for service excellence and continuous improvement.

Bonus Points (Not Required, but Nice to Have)

  • Microsoft certifications (e.g., AZ-104, SC-200, MCSA, MCSE)
  • Experience with Linux administration in a hybrid environment.
  • Familiarity with NAS, SAN, and iSCSI storage technologies.
  • Previous experience with ConnectWise PSA, RMM, and SIEM solutions.
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC), automation frameworks, or scripting beyond PowerShell.
