EOG Resources is seeking a Senior Well Planner to develop well plans based on geological targets and coordinate with directional companies. This position requires solid mathematical skills, attention to detail, and knowledge in directional drilling.
The ideal candidate will have proficiency in MS Office, AutoCAD, and other relevant software, with responsibilities including Torque and Drag analysis and ensuring well data accuracy.
Min compensation is $113,000, max is $198,000, with benefits detailed in the company link provided.
The senior well planner will develop the initial well plan (i.e. directional plan) based upon the geological targets and within the guidance as provided by the drilling engineer. Assist the drilling engineer and assigned directional company in developing the initial well plan and meeting the well objectives. Collection and integration of surface plats / surveys, geologic stick figures, type logs, gyro data on pre‑set surface casing, directional surveys and/or plats for any offset wells for anticollision calculations, AutoCAD drawings / surveys of unit hard lines and lease boundaries. The work will be applicable for single well or multi‑well sites. Will be required to run a Torque and Drag analysis as needed. Act as gatekeeper of well data both for planning purposes and at the end of well process, ensuring accuracy of the data, site set‑ups, well designs, plan drawings, and clearance from all existing wells. Communication and coordination with directional companies, including QA/QC, ensuring necessary survey files and well summary reports are submitted, and any other necessary items. Update daily survey data and assist the drilling engineer with any ad‑hoc request related to the well plan (e.g. anti‑collision calculations, projections, sidetracks, etc.).
This position requires a high school or GED equivalent degree; college degree preferred. Additional emphasis on mathematical skills and strong attention to detail is required.
Proficiencies with various software are required:
Must be familiar with all aspects of directional drilling, including the planning process, execution aspects, and understanding of various tools and survey methods. Skills required include but are not limited to mathematics, understanding of declination and grid corrections, familiarity with various grid systems, knowledge of ellipses of uncertainty, anti‑collision and its impact on well planning. Oil and gas understanding from both an operator and service company perspective as it relates to well drilling.
Position will be filled at a level commensurate with experience.
