Job summary

Construction Material Testing seeks a Certified Welding Inspector II to inspect welded joints and sign off on reports for structural steel projects. You will review WPS/PQR, witness qualifications, and direct NDT, with reporting to engineers and officials.

Role includes field erection oversight, shop inspections, and the ability to defend rejections with proper documentation. Travel to sites and client locations is involved as needed.

Qualifications

• Currently AWS CWI with at least 2 years of inspection under it.
• Working knowledge of AWS D1.1 and at least one of D1.5, D1.8, ASME IX, or API 1104.
• ICC structural steel and bolting special inspector certification preferred.
• Able to defend a rejection to a fabricator with documentation.

Responsibilities

• Perform and sign visual weld inspection with accept/reject authority.
• Review WPS, PQR, and welder qualification records.
• Witness welder performance qualification tests.
• Direct and interpret nondestructive testing.
• Write repair instructions and inspection reports.
• Inspect fabrication shops and field erection, including high-strength bolting and base plate grouting.
• Write nonconformance reports for the engineer and building official.
