Job summary

Construction Material Testing seeks a Certified Welding Inspector II to serve as the inspecting authority for structural steel, pipe, and welded assemblies. You will witness welder qualification tests, review WPS/PQR, and direct NDT, signing reports relied upon by engineers and officials.

Qualified candidates hold a current AWS CWI with 2+ years of experience; ICC steel and bolting certifications are a plus. The role involves shop and field work with travel and varied shifts.

Qualifications

• Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) with 2+ years inspecting under it.
• Working knowledge of AWS D1.1 and at least one of D1.5, D1.8, ASME IX, or API 1104.

Responsibilities

• Perform and sign visual weld inspection with accept/reject authority to the governing code.
• Review WPS, PQR, and welder qualification records.
• Witness welder performance qualification tests.
• Direct and interpret nondestructive testing.
• Disposition indications and write repair instructions.
• Inspect fabrication shops and field erection, including high-strength bolting and base plate grouting where certified.
• Write inspection reports and nonconformance reports for the engineer of record and the building official.
