Job summary

General Dynamics Electric Boat's Welding & NDT Engineering – Suppliers and Strategic Sourcing team seeks an experienced engineer to support welding procedures and supplier weld repairs for submarine construction.

The role provides technical guidance on construction support, problem resolution, and corrective actions, and evaluates supplier capabilities, procedures, and qualification of new welding methods, ensuring adherence to standards and best practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher in engineering.
  • 5+ years of post graduate related engineering experience.
  • Degree in Materials Science or Welding Engineering (preferred).
  • Three+ years of engineering experience in aerospace, defense, heavy fabrication or shipbuilding.
  • Ability to read and understand component specifications, military specifications and engineering drawings.
  • Experience with development and qualification of weld procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Review and approval of supplier welding procedures.
  • Review and approval of weld repairs performed by suppliers.
  • Providing technical guidance and expertise with respect to construction support, problem resolution and corrective actions for welding performed by suppliers.
  • Providing support to suppliers qualifying new welding procedures.
  • Evaluating the capabilities and capacity of prospective suppliers.
  • Maintaining company standards, procedures, best practices, and process improvements in the field of welding.
