Job summary

General Dynamics Electric Boat in Groton, CT seeks an experienced Welding Engineer to support procedure development, qualification, and maintenance for shipbuilding welding programs. You will contribute to welding procedure governance, metallurgical analysis, and equipment validation in a production-capable lab.

You will provide SME guidance on procedure applicability, assist audits, and help drive improvements in welding quality and process efficiency across the enterprise.

Qualifications

• BS or higher in engineering; 5+ years in welding/quality/engineering fields.
• Experience with welding procedure development and qualification.
• Ability to read specifications, drawings, and military/commercial standards.

Responsibilities

• Develop and qualify structural and pipe welding procedures per ship fabrication specs.
• Ensure weld metal properties, quality, and equipment reliability meet requirements.
• Provide technical support on procedure selection and qualification needs.
• Offer SME input on welding processes, equipment, and materials issues.
• Develop technical assessments and interpretations for Welding Procedures.
• Support audits related to welding procedures and sheets; assist vendor reviews.
