Job summary

Cullerton Group in Chicago, IL is seeking a Staff Engineer – Advanced Manufacturing to drive welding automation and advanced manufacturing technologies across multiple plants. This role blends hands-on technical leadership with strategic planning, capital project execution, and cross‑functional collaboration with engineering, operations, and quality to improve efficiency, quality, and safety.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
8+ years of manufacturing engineering experience in medium to large production environments.
Strong expertise in welding processes, robotics, and automation.
Experience with supplier selection, RFPs, and system implementation.
Ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage capital budgets.

Responsibilities

Evaluate existing manufacturing processes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, quality, and scalability.
Lead the exploration and implementation of advanced welding technologies, including robotic MIG, TIG, and laser welding.
Develop technical specifications and performance requirements for new equipment and systems.
Manage supplier selection processes, including RFP development and evaluation of vendors.
Oversee system design, build, installation, and commissioning in partnership with external suppliers.
Ensure systems meet defined quality, throughput, and safety requirements.
