Job summary

Citi seeks a Blockchain Developer to design, build, and deploy Web3 components for institutional platforms. You will develop on-chain, off-chain integrations and provide secure smart contracts while collaborating with a distributed global team.

The role emphasizes backend services, event-driven architectures, and governance of tokenization and custody frameworks within a fast-evolving Web3 stack.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in CS/Engineering or related field; MS is a plus.
• 8+ years of software engineering experience with strong backend focus.
• 2–4 years in Web3 and blockchain app development incl. smart contracts.
• 3–5 years backend development with Java/Spring, Node.js, or similar.
• Proficiency in Solidity and testing frameworks (Hardhat/Foundry/Truffle).
• Hands-on with Web3 libraries: Web3J, Web3JS, Ethers.js, Viem.
• Solid understanding of blockchain fundamentals and gas models.
• Experience with token standards (ERC-20/721/1155/3525).
• Familiarity with permissioned blockchains (Hyperledger Besu, Fabric, Corda).
• Asynchronous programming, event-driven systems, message queues.
• DevOps familiarity: Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD; crypto key mgmt.
• Exposure to Layer 2, cross-chain interoperability; financial services experience.
• Familiar with Agile/Scrum and distributed teamwork tools.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy Web3 components and integrations for asset platform.
• Build backend services interfacing with public and permissioned blockchains.
• Develop, test, and audit Solidity smart contracts with security in mind.
• Integrate Web3 libraries into enterprise Java and/or Node.js backends.
• Implement asynchronous, event-driven architectures for on-chain events.
• Collaborate with architects and engineers on scalable, secure Web3 infra.
• Participate in code reviews to uphold high engineering standards.
• Support integration of custody, tokenization, and DeFi/TradFi bridging components.
• Contribute to technical docs: smart contract specs, integration guides, architecture notes.
• Stay current with Web3 ecosystem, protocol upgrades, and Layer 2 developments.
