Our client, a growing agency is breaking more into omni channel and hiring a remote (EST hours) Sr Web and CRO Lead
The role
We are hiring one person to own the website as a conversion channel: the technical build, and the experimentation program that makes pages convert. You will work alongside a senior organic search lead who owns SEO and AI answer engine visibility, so this is not a four-discipline generalist seat. It is the build and test half, owned properly. This is a hands‑on craft role, not a management role. You will be in WordPress, in VWO, in GTM and GA4, in Figma, and in Claude. You will also be in front of clients: presenting findings in seven‑figure pitches, running QBRs, and defending recommendations to marketing leaders at enterprise ISPs and national consumer brands.
Who this is not for
platform architects who do not test, program managers who coordinate other people's builds, and in‑house ecommerce generalists who have never carried five client accounts at once. All three are good jobs. They are not this one.
What you will own
Build
- Technical WordPress: custom PHP templates, ACF blocks, Elementor, theme and global style updates, staging to production with documented rollback plans
- Shopify optimization: PDP and checkout, Recharge subscription flows
- Hand‑coded HTML, CSS and JS landing pages delivered as standalone assets
- Whatever CMS a client brings: Webflow, Squarespace, HubSpot CMS, including gated asset builds
- Scaled page programs, for example 55+ local templates shipped on a single custom theme
- Figma: wireframes, mockups, mobile‑first UX, and reusable component libraries
Experiment
- The full test lifecycle: hypothesis, variant build, QA, GA4 goal wiring, minimum duration and statistical rigor, readout, and a shared learning archive
- A real cadence. Our largest accounts run two to four tests a month and some clients expect a new variant weekly
- Landing page CRO audits and builds: competitive audit, page builds, then a test cycle instrumented with heatmaps and session recordings
- Buyflow, serviceability check and lead capture optimization, including form and data capture audits and bot mitigation
- Quantified results: annualized projections, pre and post one‑sheets, incrementality framing
Measure
- GA4 event design, key events, custom dashboards, conversion validation
- GTM governance at scale, including auditing large inherited containers and conversion linker domains
- Consent configuration and verification
- Core Web Vitals, PageSpeed, render‑blocking fixes, image and WebP optimization, caching and CDN
- Reporting automation via Supermetrics or the Google APIs feeding client dashboards with WoW, MoM and YoY views
Requirements
Must have
- 5+ years in web development and CRO, with real depth in both rather than one plus exposure
- Agency or multi‑client background. You have carried five or more accounts at once and stayed client‑facing while doing it
- WordPress at a technical level, not as an editor
- VWO or Optimizely, plus at least one heatmap or session recording tool (Hotjar, FullStory, Contentsquare)
- GA4 and GTM ownership, including cleaning up an inherited mess
- A testing record you can walk through with numbers, including a test that lost
- You already work with AI in production. We build audits, decks, designs and pages with Claude and Claude Code. If AI is something you have read about rather than used daily, this will not be a fit
- A weekly shipping habit with documented QA covering mobile, speed, links, forms and tracking
Strong plus
- Enough technical SEO literacy to avoid breaking organic performance when you ship: redirects, canonicals, sitemaps, robots, crawl impact
- Range across our verticals: telecom or ISP, DTC ecommerce and subscription, healthcare, home services, B2B Client‑side stack familiarity: Northbeam, Iterable, Rudderstack, Mixpanel, HubSpot CRM
What success looks like
- First 30 days. You have audited the technical and tracking state of your accounts and produced a prioritized backlog with effort and impact estimates. You have shipped at least one page or fix per account.
- First 60 days. Tests are live and on cadence. You have presented a findings readout to a client and it landed.
- First 90 days. You own the conversion roadmap for your accounts, with quantified results on at least two completed test cycles, and other pods pull you into pitches.
Benefits
- Company-paid medical, dental and vision.
- Flexible time off.
- 12 weeks paid parental leave.
- Company-sponsored MacBook.
- Annual company retreat.
- Fully remote.
How we work
We move fast, we document, and we use AI tooling as a default rather than a novelty. Project management runs through Asana. Approvals are tracked. Client communication is polished. Internal communication is short.
