Job summary

Firecrawl is hiring a Web Automation Engineer to keep our web access fast, reliable, and resilient at scale. You will reverse engineer detection mechanisms, identify signals that distinguish automated from human traffic, and ship robust automation that withstands evolving defenses.

This role blends research with production engineering across a hybrid SF/Toronto setup. You should have 3+ years of relevant experience building browser automation, with strong JavaScript/TypeScript or Python skills

Qualifications

• Strong JavaScript/TypeScript and/or Python, with ability to adapt to problems.
• Deep understanding of rendering, JS engines, headless automation.
• Solid knowledge of HTTP/TLS, proxies, and fingerprinting.
• Ability to read minified/obfuscated code and deduce checks.
• Experience taking research work to production with shipping discipline.
• Nice to have deobfuscating JavaScript and VM-based techniques.

Responsibilities

• Reverse engineer detection and challenge flows to understand how sites block automation.
• Identify browser, device, network, and behavioral signals that separate automated vs human traffic.
• Reproduce and harden signals in authorized test environments.
• Build automation, diagnostics, and monitoring tools to keep scrape reliability high.
• Own scrape success rate, explain regressions, and ship fixes.
• Collaborate with platform engineers to roll improvements fleet-wide.
