You will lead and contribute to multidisciplinary teams delivering municipal and utility projects across New England and the U.S., with opportunities to advance toward technical leadership and project management roles. Responsibilities include planning and designing water/wastewater systems, leading design tasks, preparing construction documents, and mentoring junior staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering; Master's preferred.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• 8+ years of relevant civil infrastructure or water/wastewater experience.
• Strong background in site grading, utilities, hydraulics, or treatment processes.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D; familiarity with Revit, InfoWater/InfoWorks a plus.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel ~15%.

Responsibilities

• Plan and design water/wastewater treatment, distribution/conveyance, and pumping systems.
• Assist with master planning/analyzing/modeling for long-term sewer improvements.
• Manage design tasks such as hydraulic calculations, pipe sizing, and civil drawings.
• Prepare construction documents, drawings, specs, reports, and cost estimates.
• Work as a task lead on water/wastewater projects, mentoring junior staff.
• Collaborate with senior engineers and project managers to ensure design quality.
• Review submittals and RFIs during construction phases.
• Assist with site visits, field investigations, and construction observation.
• Work closely with CAD designers and other technical staff.
• Collaborate with clients on project scoping and multidisciplinary delivery.
• Support business development and conference presentations.

Tetra Tech is seeking a technically driven Senior Water/WW Engineer (Civil PE) to join our Boston, MA office. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who is passionate about civil and water/wastewater infrastructure design and is interested in progressing toward a technical leadership role with a focus on project management. You'll play a key technical role on multidisciplinary teams delivering complex municipal and utility projects throughout New England and across the U.S.

Our Boston team supports clients with innovative, practical solutions for water and wastewater treatment, conveyance systems, stormwater management, and site infrastructure. This is a great opportunity to deepen your technical expertise while gaining exposure to project delivery, coordination, and client-facing work.

Essential Functions:

• Plan and design water/wastewater treatment, distribution/conveyance, and pumping systems.
• Assist with master planning/analyzing/modeling for long-term infrastructure improvements of municipal sewer systems.
• Manage project design tasks such as hydraulic calculations, pipe and equipment sizing, and detailed civil design.
• Prepare construction documents, including drawings, technical specifications, reports, and cost estimates.
• Work as a task lead on water/wastewater projects, mentoring junior staff.
• Collaborate with senior engineers and project managers to ensure design quality and technical accuracy.
• Review contractor submittals and respond to RFIs during construction phases.
• Assist with site visits, field investigations, and occasional construction observation.
• Work closely with CAD designers, junior engineers, and other technical staff.
• Collaborate with clients on project scoping and work with multidisciplinary teams on delivery.
• Work with senior engineers on business development, help develop and present at conferences, and stay active with associations.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering; Master's degree a plus.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• 8+ years of relevant experience in civil infrastructure or water/wastewater projects.
• Strong technical background in one or more of the following: site grading, utilities, hydraulics, treatment processes, or stormwater systems.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D; familiarity with Revit, InfoWater/InfoWorks, or similar tools is a plus.
• Solid written and verbal communication skills.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel (~15%) to project sites and client meetings

Compensation is dependent on work location, individual experience, and job qualification. Range: $128,000 to $160,000

Physical Requirements / Work Environment:

• Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer and performing design tasks
• Frequent use of hands and fingers to operate a computer, keyboard, and engineering software
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret detailed engineering drawings, plans, and specifications
• Ability to stand, walk, and navigate active project or construction sites during field visits
• Ability to occasionally lift or carry light materials (up to 25 pounds) such as field equipment or documents
• Visual acuity to review technical data, drawings, and digital models
• Ability to travel to project sites and perform fieldwork activities as needed.
• Hybrid office environment with a combination of in-office and field-based work.
• Work performed primarily in a professional office setting with standard engineering tools and software.
• Periodic site visits to construction sites, treatment facilities, or outdoor environments.
• Exposure to varying weather conditions during fieldwork.
• Potential exposure to construction-related conditions, including noise, dust, and uneven terrain.
• Use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) is required during site visits.
