Job summary

Whitman, Requardt & Associates, LLP is seeking an experienced Water/wastewater engineer to join our Blacksburg, VA office. The candidate will independently manage technical tasks, lead design efforts, and support proposals with strong communication and mentoring skills.

The role requires a BSCE from ABET program, 16+ years in water and wastewater planning, design and construction, and a Virginia P.E. license or eligibility by comity within 6 months. Travel may be required.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited BSCE in civil/environmental engineering.
• 16+ years of water/wastewater planning, design and construction experience.
• Professional Engineer license in VA or eligible by comity within 6 months.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and proposal development.

Responsibilities

• Manage design oversight of water/wastewater projects from planning to closeout.
• Lead design office oversight and coordination in Tidewater Virginia.
• Identify, pursue and prepare proposals to obtain new projects.
• Prepare and monitor project budgets and ensure on-time, on-budget delivery with quality.

We are currently seeking an experienced Water/wastewater engineer to join our team in our Blacksburg, VA location. The successful candidate is expected to be able to independently work on technical tasks with minimum supervision, lead and coordinate technical tasks and, when appropriate, serve as the project design lead. The successful candidate is also expected to support the preparation of technical proposals in particular the development of technical approaches. Successful candidate should demonstrate excellent oral and written communications skills, as well as presentation skills, and the ability to mentor and train younger engineering staff.

Responsibilities:

• Manage, plan, and provide design oversight of water/wastewater projects.
• Manage and oversee design office in Tidewater Virginia.
• Identify, pursue and prepare proposals and presentations to obtain new projects.
• Prepare and monitor project budgets, successfully manage and deliver projects on time and on budget, while meeting quality requirements. Responsible for control of work-in-progress and ensure accurate client billings on projects.
• Participate in construction phase, including pre-bid conferences, interpretations and post-bid evaluations and contract preparation.
• Participate in pre-project presentations and interviews.
• Lead project planning efforts from procurement and negotiation through execution and closeout, while continuing to monitor project status and control execution to achieve project goals.

Requirements:

• Bachelor of Science degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering from an ABET accredited program
• 16+ Years of progressive experience in water and wastewater system planning, design and construction, including water and wastewater facilities, water transmission systems, water storage tanks, pumping stations, force mains, and the evaluation, design and rehabilitation of sanitary sewer systems
• Construction phase experience is desired
• Must have a P.E. license, registered in the the Commonwealth of Virginia, or ability to become registered through comity from another state within 6 months preferred
