Job summary

AH Engineering Consultants, a Newport News-based environmental engineering and consulting firm, seeks a Senior Water/Wastewater Design Engineer to lead planning and design for municipal water and wastewater projects across multiple offices. The ideal candidate is a PE-licensed professional with 10+ years of experience delivering planning and design solutions for complex infrastructure.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering or related field.
PE license is required.
10+ years of water/wastewater design experience, preferably in consulting.
Experience with municipal water and wastewater systems design and regulatory knowledge.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

Lead planning and design of water and wastewater infrastructure projects (treatment facilities, pump stations, storage, pipelines).
Prepare or oversee reports, specifications, drawings, and cost estimates.
Manage projects through design, bidding, and construction phases.
Coordinate with clients, regulators, subconsultants, and internal teams.
Provide technical leadership, design oversight, and quality control.
Support permitting and regulatory compliance for municipal projects.
Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team development.
Participate in client meetings, proposals, and business development.
Assist with scheduling, budgeting, and resource planning.
