Job summary

Essnova Solutions, Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Engineer – Water Systems to support the ALS-U project at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in Berkeley, CA. The role focuses on design, operation, and maintenance of cooling water, LCW and DI systems for accelerator and beamline facilities.

You will develop P&IDs, perform thermal and hydraulic analyses, supervise reliability programs, and drive safety and regulatory compliance in a 12-month onsite assignment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field.
• 8+ years designing, operating, or maintaining industrial water systems.
• Experience with LCW/DI water systems, water purity, and troubleshooting.
• Knowledge of pumps, heat exchangers, and water treatment equipment.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and optimization of cooling water systems for ALS-U and ALS.
• Create P&IDs, flow diagrams, hydraulic calculations, and specs.
• Perform heat transfer, fluid dynamics, pump sizing, and water quality analyses.
• Coordinate integration with accelerator, beamline, HVAC, and facility systems.
• Develop preventive and predictive maintenance programs for water infrastructure.
• Ensure compliance with ISM, EH&S, and laboratory safety standards.
